OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University baseball team won game one 13-3 behind another strong performance at the plate. In game two, it was a similar story, as the RedHawks defeated Bowling Green 10-3 to take both ends of the Sunday doubleheader. Miami improves to 7-7 (4-0 MAC) while BGSU drops to 2-11 (0-4 MAC).
Nick Neibauer led the way, reaching base four times, while
Stephen Krause hit his team-leading fourth home run.
Zach Maxey led the way on the mound, throwing five innings and striking out seven.
In game two, every RedHawk position player recorded a hit, while
Kenten Egbert picked up his first win of the season with 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One
- In the top of the first, Bowling Green took a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, William Escala and Neibauer were hit by pitches, then Cole Andrews singled loading the bases. In the following at-bat, Krause brought home Escala. Benji Brokemond then tripled, scoring Neibauer. Following a Dom Magliocca walk, Parker Lester doubled, driving in Brokemond and Magliocca and putting the RedHawks up 4-1.
- Leading 4-3 in the bottom of the second, Blake Buzzeo led off with a single, then advanced to third on an error that put Escala on second. Neibauer then singled to center, driving in Buzzeo and Escala. With Andrews on first, Krause doubled, putting runners on second and third. Brokemond then singled up the middle, driving in Andrews and Krause, putting the 'Hawks up 8-3.
- In the bottom of the third, Neibauer reached on a walk. Andrews followed with a double to drive in Neibauer. Krause then homered to left field, driving in Andrews and extending the RedHawk lead to eight.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Neibauer singled to center. Andrews then doubled to left-center, driving in Neibauer. Andrews then scored on an error later in the inning, stretching the lead to 13-3.
Miami Game Notes: Game One
- Zach Maxey threw five innings, allowing one earned run while striking out seven Falcons.
- Krause went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, a double and two runs scored.
- Brady McLean threw two scoreless innings out of the pen, striking out two.
- Neibauer reached base five times, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.
- Andrews went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored.
- Brokemond went 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two
- Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the third, Escala doubled to right-center field. Neibauer singled, driving in Escala. Neibauer later scored, tying the game at two.
- In the bottom of the sixth, trailing 3-2, Brokemond led off with a single. In the next at-bat, Magliocca doubled to left field, scoring Brokemond. Zach MacDonald then walked and Lester singled, loading the bases. Buzzeo hit a ground-rule double to right-center field, driving in Brokemond and MacDonald. Escala and Neibauer then walked, scoring Lester. In the following at-bat, Buzzeo scored on an Andrews sac-fly, putting the RedHawks up 7-3.
- In the bottom of the seventh, MacDonald was hit by a pitch, then reached third on a single by Buzzeo. Escala then brought MacDonald home on a sac bunt, putting the 'Hawks up five.
- In the bottom of the eighth, Andrews led off with a double to left. Krause then doubled to left-center, driving in Andrews.

- Andrews went 2-for-3 with a double, a RBI, and a run scored.
- Brokemond reached base four times, with a run scored and two singles.
- Neibauer reached base twice, with two RBI and a run scored.
- MacDonald reached base three times, scoring twice.
- Michael Spinozzi started throwing three innings, striking out five.
- Demonica threw 2.1 innings out of the bullpen, striking out three batters.
