Baseball Falls in Doubleheader to Western Michigan

OXFORD, Ohio — Through a series of rain delays, the Miami University baseball team fell twice in a doubleheader against the Western Michigan Broncos on Friday. In game one, the RedHawks lost 9-0, and in a late-night game two, the 'Hawks fell 4-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In game one, the RedHawks suffered a 9-0 defeat to the Broncos.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning of game two, freshman Dalton Back hit a ground-rule double to right-center field. In the following at-bat for Miami, junior Cole Andrews hit a two-run home run to deep center field, tying the game up at two.
- In the bottom of fifth, sophomore Brian Zapp led off with a single. Following a sac bunt, redshirt freshman Benji Brokemond tripled down the right-field line, giving the RedHawks a 3-2 lead. However, the Broncos came up with two runs in the top of the seventh to come through with the win over the RedHawks.
GAME NOTES:
- Jonathan Brand threw 5.1 innings in game two, allowing just two runs while striking out 13 batters in his start.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The RedHawks will play game three of their series with the Broncos tomorrow, Saturday, April 10. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at McKie Field in Oxford.
