Cross Country Competes at First Winter Meet at Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Miami University men's and women's cross country teams started the 2021 winter season on a high note, taking both overall team titles at the Belmont Opener invitational on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- On the women's side, freshman Carmen Riano grabbed the second-place win for the RedHawks, with a time of 17:48.1. She was closely followed by Katie Vitou (17:48.2) who finished in third.
- Junior Emily Akin also saw a good time in Sunday's race, running a 17:58.5 to finish in fifth. Sophomore Ally Suyak ran a 18:09.2 in the race to also secure eighty to round out the top-ten.
- On the men's side, senior Sean Torpy was the top finisher for Miami in Nashville, finishing 24:52.9 to secure third place individually. Anthony Camerieri finished with a new personal best in the 8k race, improving his previous best with a time of 24:57.2 in the 8k.
- The rest of the pack wasn't too far behind Camerieri, with Obsaa Feda (7th, 25:09.1), Jake Bertelsen (8th, 25:16.5), Andrew Schroff (9th, 25:22.6), and Ben Bayless (10th, 25:28.6), rounding out the top ten on the men's side.
