OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University men's basketball team closes the regular season Friday as it welcomes rival Ohio to town for the second Battle of the Bricks game of the season. Tip time is at 7 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN3. An audio broadcast will be available on the Miami Sports Network from Van Wagner.
SENIOR DAY CEREMONY: Fans will want to arrive early on Friday as the RedHawks will hold their Senior Day ceremony prior to the game. Miami will be honoring its one senior, forward
Bam Bowman for his contributions the past three seasons. Bowman has appeared in 92 games during his time with the 'Hawks, making 56 starts. He has 681 career points, an average of 7.4 points per game, and 386 rebounds, an average of 4.2 caroms per contest. He has a .459 career shooting percentage and has shown his range with 71 career three-point makes.
STUDENT TAILGATE: Prior to Friday's game, there will be a student tailgate in the east concourse of Millett Hall, presented by Gaslight Brewhouse. There will be great prizes from Gaslight Brewhouse, including gift cards and prize bundles. There will be free pizza for the first 100 students and a hydroflask voucher for the first 500 students. Students are encouraged to stop by for games, music and more!
MAC TOURNAMENT SCENARIOS: With one game to go before the MAC Tournament here is what needs to happen on Friday for Miami to get certain seeds:
10th seed - Miami wins, EMU loses to Toledo, WMU defeats CMU
11th seed - Miami wins, EMU loses to Toledo, CMU defeats WMU
12th seed - Miami loses OR EMU defeats Toledo
ABOUT OHIO: The Bobcats are 15-15 overall and 7-10 in the MAC. They saw their two game win streak come to an end in their last game, a 74-67 setback at Akron on Tuesday. Under a new coaching staff this season, Ohio has a young roster that has begun to gel in the second half of MAC play. It is led by sophomore guard Jason Preston. He is averaging 16.4 points per game. Redshirt sophomore Ben Vander Plas, the reigning MAC Freshman of the Year, is averaging 15.4 points and a team-leading 6.8 rebounds per game. Senior guard Jordan Dartis also averages in double figures with 13.3 points per game.
THE SERIES WITH OHIO: Miami has played more games against Ohio then any other opponent over its 114 seasons of men's basketball. The Bobcats hold a 112-94 lead in the all-time series with the RedHawks. In the teams' first meeting on Feb. 8 in Athens, Miami struggled from the field throughout the first half, hitting only three shots as it fell behind 34-11 at halftime. The RedHawks were unable to overcome such a large deficit despite shooting better in the second half as they fell, 77-46. Junior guard
Nike Sibande led Miami with 12 points.
UP NEXT: Miami begins play in the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Monday. The RedHawks will be the 10th, 11th or 12th seed and will play on the road at a site and time to be determined.
