Harper Degree Celebration Rescheduled

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University will honor basketball legend Ron Harper with the presentation of an honorary degree during the upcoming season. This celebration, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27 in Oxford, has been postponed due to Harper's overseas responsibilities on behalf of the National Basketball Association this month. The new date will be announced soon.

"While we were excited to welcome Ron Harper back to campus for a special event on the 27th, we certainly understand and appreciate his work commitments that have made us postpone the event until a later date, said Director of Athletics David Sayler. "Homecoming certainly would have been a special time to honor him, but now we are focused on locking in a high-impact basketball home game to honor him in the very building where he made so many amazing memories for Miami University!  Stay tuned."

Harper, one of the most decorated men's basketball players in Mid-American Conference history, ranks second all-time among MAC players with 2,377 career points and fifth in conference history with 1,119 career rebounds. The two-time MAC Player of the Year and 1986 All-American led the Red and White to two conference championships and three-straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. He was selected eighth overall in the 1986 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers and went on to capture five NBA Championships during his 15-year playing career.

More information on the Harper event will be available on MiamiRedHawks.com as soon as details are finalized.
