BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The Miami University men's and women's cross country teams contended at the top of the standings throughout the day on Saturday at the Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships held at Bowling Green State University. The women's squad finished in third overall, while the men grabbed the runner-up finish.
The women finished with 95 points in the team standings, just eleven points behind first-place Northern Illinois (84), and five points behind second-place finisher Bowling Green (90). The men's race was also a good meet for Miami, with the men finishing 25 points (64) behind Eastern Michigan (39). With most of the field being close and competitive, both teams saw a good number of collegiate bests for the RedHawk runners.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- On the women's side, junior Katie Vitou was the top finisher for the RedHawks, with a 21:11.0 to finish in seventh overall. Teammate and sophomore Carmen Riano was right behind Vitou, finishing in tenth overall with a time of 21:22.7. With their finished, Vitou landed on the All-MAC first team, while Riano landed on the second All-MAC team.
- To round out Miami's top-five, sophomore Aly Suyak (20th, 21:51.3) and junior McKenna Fry (25th, 22:03.7) finished within the top-30, grabbing crucial points for the team standings. Freshman Lotti Roemer (33rd, 22:18.7) and sophomore Jenna Sayle (38th, 22:25.1) both collected collegiate-bests in the conference race, and finished within the top-40.
- Junior Anthony Camerieri was the top finisher for the RedHawks at the men's side of the meet, finishing the 8k race in a time of 24:25.8. Senior Sean Torpy was right behind his teammate, finishing in eighth overall with a time of 24:28.3. Camerieri's finish landed him a spot on the All-MAC first team, while Torpy landed on the second team.
- The field on the men's side was a close one, with sophomore Obsaa Feda (15th, 24:57.5), junior Jake Bertelsen (16th, 24:57.7), sophomore Andrew Schroff (18th, 25:02.8), and freshman Mhalicki Bronson (19th, 25:03.6) finishing the race ranked in the top-twenty.
- Junior Finley McLear (24th, 25:12.0) and sophomore Dan Conway (34th, 25:37.4) both came out of the competitive 8k race with collegiate bests.
