
RedHawks Open Season at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -Â The Miami RedHawks women's track and field team got its first taste of indoor action Saturday afternoon when they kicked off the winter season at the Bowling Green Opener.
The 'Hawks went up against Northern Illinois, Ball State and the host Bowling Green Falcons in the meet, taking home a total of two event wins on the track.
The first win on the day came in the one-mile run for Miami, with Lotti Roemer finishing first in the field with a time of 5:05.37. Long distance events proved to be a success for the RedHawks, with Miami taking the top four finishes in the 3000-meter run, with Emily Akin (9:55.96) grabbing the top time. Katie Vitou (10:04.81), McKenna Fry (10:15.22) and Ally Suyak (10:16.08) were right behind Akin, grabbing the second, third, and fourth place titles, respectively.
The Miami 1600 relay team finished in fifth, with an overall time of 4:15.31.
Over on the field with their season debuts, Sydney Jefferson, finished in second place in the weighted throw, with a 16.53 meter throw. Miami also entered three athletes in the shot put, with Grace Rigel being the best of the trio, clearing a 12.91m mark for fourth place.. Sarah Bruns was the top RedHawk finisher in the long jump, clearing a distance of 5.20m.
