BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Miami University men's basketball team remains on the road as it travels to Bowling Green on Tuesday. Tip is at 7 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN+. An audio broadcast will be available on the Miami Sports Network from Van Wagner.
LAIRY HAD BIG WEEK: Sophomore guard
Mekhi Lairy was Miami's leading scorer despite coming off the bench in both games last week. He averaged 18.0 points, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Lairy was fantastic from the field, finishing 12-for-16 (75 percent). That included an incredible 7-for-9 (77.8 percent) from behind the arc. In the RedHawks' record-setting win over Wilberforce last Monday, Lairy scored 18 points and finished with six assists and two steals. In their game against Central Michigan last Saturday, he had another 18 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc. This season, Lairy ranks third on the RedHawks with 9.6 points per game. He leads the MAC with a 2.53 assist to turnover ratio.
SIBANDE INTO TOP 20 SCORING: With 22 points against Central Michigan last Saturday, junior guard
Nike Sibande moved into the top 20 on Miami's all-time scoring list. He now ranks 19th with 1,235 career points. Sibande is 177 points away from reaching the RedHawks' top 10.
ABOUT BOWLING GREEN: The Falcons were the preseason pick to win the Mid-American Conference this season. So far they are 9-5 overall, but 0-1 in the MAC after dropping their league opener, 79-61, to Kent State last Saturday. Bowling Green's star player, junior Justin Turner, is working his way back into the lineup after missing a few games due to injury. He is averaging 17.5 points per game. Picking up the slack in his absence were senior guard Dylan Frye at 13.6 points per game and junior forward Daeqwon Plowden at 13.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest.
THE SERIES WITH THE FALCONS: Miami leads the all-time series with Bowling Green, 85-57. The RedHawks won both meetings with the Falcons last season. On Jan. 26, 2019 in Oxford, Miami used a terrific defensive effort to earn a 67-53 win. The 'Hawks held BGSU to only 36.5 percent shooting for the game.
Nike Sibande led the offense with 25 points. On Feb. 26, 2019 in Bowling Green, Miami drained a season-high 15 three-pointers to take an 82-69 victory. Sibande scored 20, while
Darrian Ringo dished out nine assists.
