OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University men's basketball team will make its third appearance on national television as it travels to 19th/20th-ranked Buffalo on Saturday. Tip time is at noon and it will air live on CBS Sports Network. An audio broadcast will be available on the RedHawk IMG Sports Network Tunein App.
RANKED OPPONENT AWAITS: This is the first game for Miami against a ranked opponent since they fell to 21st-ranked Ohio State, 93-55, on Dec. 23, 2014. The RedHawks are looking for their first win against a ranked team since they defeated Boston College (10th in AP Poll/11th in Coaches Poll), on Dec. 20, 2001 in the first round of the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
RINGO CLOSING IN ON TOP 10 ASSISTS AND STEALS: With five assists against Northern Illinois on Tuesday, senior guard
Darrian Ringo now has 317 career assists in only one and a half years at Miami. He is only 19 assists shy of passing Miami Hall-of-Famer and current Assistant to the Head Coach
Damon Frierson (335 career assists) for 10th on the Red and White's career assist list. Ringo recorded six steals against the Huskies to give him 133 for his Miami career. He is only four shy of passing Miami Hall-of-Famer Devin Davis (136 career steals) for 10th on the RedHawks' career steal list.
ABOUT BUFFALO: The Bulls are 14-1 overall and 2-0 in the MAC. They are currently ranked 19th in the latest AP Poll and are tied for 20th in the Amway Coaches' Poll. Buffalo is coming off a run to the NCAA Tournament Second Round last season, and with nearly everyone back on a senior dominated team is has continued to win at a historic pace. The Bulls opened MAC play with a 74-58 win at Eastern Michigan on Jan. 4. They then followed up by crushing Toledo, 110-80, in their last game on Tuesday. UB has three players averaging double figures. Senior guard CJ Massinburg leads the way at 17.7 points per game, while senior guard Jeremy Harris averages 15.1 points per contest. Senior forward Nick Perkins comes off the bench to contribute 13.9 points and a team-leading 8.9 rebounds per game.
THE SERIES WITH BULLS: The RedHawks hold a 25-18 lead in the all-time series with the Bulls. The teams split their two meetings last season with both teams winning at home. On Jan. 13, 2018 in Buffalo, Miami trailed by only one point at halftime, but a second half run allowed the Bulls to pull away for an 82-68 win.
Nike Sibande led the 'Hawks with 16 points, while
Darrian Ringo had 14 points and seven assists. On Feb. 20, 2018, Buffalo led early but a mid-second half run allowed Miami to pull ahead as it held on for an 84-81 victory. Sibande had 21 points, while
Dalonte Brown and
Isaiah Coleman-Lands scored 17 each for the RedHawks.
