Volleyball
Last Week: History was made for Miami (14-7 overall, 6-2 MAC) as it won both matches last weekend. On Friday, the RedHawks took down Central Michigan, 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-13, 25-20). It was head coach Carolyn Condit's 600th win at Miami, she is first `Hawks coach in any sport to win that many games for this school (Recap) On Saturday, the RedHawks took down Eastern Michigan 3-0 (25-16, 35-33, 28-26). That victory gave Coach Condit her 700th career win when you combine her 601 Miami wins with 99 from her four years as a head coach at Xavier. She is the 12th winningest active coach in NCAA Division I (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks begin a four-match road trip with a pair of important MAC contests next weekend. On Friday, Miami travels to Toledo for a 7 p.m. first serve. On Saturday, the `Hawks head to Ball State for a 7 p.m. contest.
Soccer
Last Week: The RedHawks (2-12-1, 2-5-1 MAC) picked up a pair of dramatic overtime victories to move up to ninth in the Mid-American Conference standings. On Friday, Chloe Knue struck in the first half to give Miami its first lead of the season going into the half. Although Central Michigan rallied to tie it, Lydia Brosnahan scored on a header to put Miami into the win column for the first time with the 2-1 overtime win (Recap). Two days later, the RedHawks fell behind Eastern Michigan 2-0 in the first 17:58. Kat Zalar scored in the 20th minute to cut the gap in half at 2-1. Brosnahan struck again in the second half, heading home a corner kick feed from Soph Spinell, her third assist of the weekend, to send the contest into overtime. With 3:53 left in the second overtime, Katie Alexander blasted home her second goal of the season to give the Red and White a 3-2 win over the Eagles (Recap). This Week: Miami looks to continue moving up the MAC standings when it heads to Akron (Thursday) and Buffalo (Sunday).
Field Hockey
Last Week: On Sunday, Miami (6-7 overall, 4-0 MAC) was shut out, 2-0, for the first time this season against No. 2 Duke. Junior goalkeeper Maddie Passarella made 15 saves to keep the game close. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks complete their N.C. trip with a contest on Monday against Davidson at 5 p.m. Miami then hosts Central MIchigan on Friday at 5 p.m. and No. 4 Virginia on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Golf
Last Week: Senior Patrick Flavin finished off his third win in four tournaments as he shared co-medalist honors at the Windon Memorial Classic. The RedHawks as a team finished tied for fifth in the 15-team field. (Recap) This Week: Miami competes in its final tournament of the fall as it makes the short trip to Kettering, Ohio for the Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate. The RedHawks will play 36 holes on Monday and one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
Hockey
Last Week: Miami made a quick trip to Plymouth, Michigan for an exhibition with the USA National Team Development Program on Friday evening. After falling behind 1-0 in the opening frame, the RedHawks rode a pair of Grant Hutton goals to a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. The lead was extended to 4-1 in the second thanks to strikes from Gordie Green and Ryan Siroky, but USA scored three unanswered to leave it a 4-4 game before Zach LaValle banged home a loose puck to make it a 5-4 game at the end of the middle stanza. USA again evened the score just over a minute into the third, but a nifty kick feed from Josh Melnick sprung Green for his second goal of the night (Melnick's third helper of the evening) before a Carson Meyer empty net goal clinched a 7-5 win (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks head out on the road to resume regular season play at Maine on Friday and Saturday.
Cross Country
Last Week: The RedHawks competed in their final meet before the Mid-American Conference Championship. A small group ran at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic on Friday. Led by senior Alex Cameron's 19:20.0, the women's squad finished third. The men did not race a full team; Jack O'Neil was their top finisher with a 26:25.3. (Recap) The bigger group competed at the prestigious Pre-Nationals in Louisville. Here, the men's team took 22nd while the women finished 30th. Sophomore Sean Torpy once again finished as the top Miami runner after smashing his career best by a full minute. In fact, four of the five men's finishers broke the previous season-best time. Eleven of the 12 men set new PRs. Sophomore Carly Davis paced the women's team, finishing 91st with a 21:09.0. (Recap) This Week: The `Hawks will take the week off in preparation for MAC Championship on Oct. 28th. Miami will host the meet.
Football
Last Week: Miami dropped a 17-14 decision last Saturday at Kent State. In the loss Billy Bahl threw for 174 yards and two scores. (Recap) This Week: Miami returns home to face Buffalo at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Swimming and Diving
Last Week:The Miami men and women began their season with a home meet against Purdue on Friday. The women fell by a 194-105 margin and the men fell by a 233-67 margin. Red-shirt senior Pei Lin began her season with wins on the 1-meter (322.35) and 3-meter dives (348.97). Sophomore Izzy Herb won the 200 Back (2:03.39). Sophomore Iago Moussalem narrowly placed second in the 100 and 200 Fly, finishing less than a half second behind the winner for each event. Red-shirt senior Elise Campbell won the 50 Free (23.53). (Recap) This Week:Miami has the week off.
