Afterwards, MU got a power play goal in the waning seconds of the second period from Josh Melnick, who then converted on a penalty shot 1:19 into the second period to stake Miami to a 3-1 lead. Willie Knierim netted his fourth goal of the year to give the Red and White a 4-1 lead after two periods. The Broncos poured on the pressure and potted a pair of third period goals in the first six and a half minutes to pull within 4-3, but Ryan Larkin stopped 44 of 47 shots to keep them from tying it up as the RedHawks forced a weekend split (RECAP).
