OXFORD, Ohio -- In a back-and-forth matchup, Miami University's men's basketball team erased a 16-point first half deficit to top the University at Buffalo, 75-74, Tuesday evening at Millett Hall.

The win was head coach John Cooper's 100th career victory. He began his head coaching career at Tennessee State.

The RedHawks (9-11, 2-5 MAC) were led by terrific performances from the Weathers brothers. Freshman forward Marcus Weathers scored 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting while freshman guard Michael Weathers put in 16 points and doled out seven assists. Sophomore guard Jake Wright also posted double-figures with 14 points, including four makes from beyond the arc.

After both teams traded baskets to begin the contest, Buffalo used an 11-0 run to claim an early 16-8 lead at the 13:46 mark. The Bulls continued to dominate the scoring, pushing their advantage to 31-15 with under ten minutes remaining in the half.

Capitalizing on a brief UB drought, a 3-pointer from Wright helped Miami narrow the margin to 31-21 with 6:17 left. After a quick response from the Bulls (9-11, 3-4 MAC), the RedHawks closed out on a 7-1 run, bringing the score to 39-31 at halftime. The burst was powered by senior guard Jake Bischoff, who scored the RedHawks' final four points of the half.

Miami's momentum extended into the second half as sharp-shooting from Wright and six straight points from the Weathers brothers reduced the deficit to 45-42 with 15:27 remaining. After seeing its lead dwindle to two, Buffalo rebounded with a 9-0 run that returned the margin to double-digits at 54-43.

Continuing the game-long trend of scoring runs, Miami used a 7-0 sequence to bring the UB lead back to four. Michael Weathers broke double-figures in second-half scoring as his jumper made the score 60-55 with 7:55 left in the game.

A pair of Bischoff free throws brought the game to within one with under seven minutes to play, but Buffalo continued to hold a slim edge. Wright's fourth 3-pointer of the evening then returned Miami to a two-point deficit at 64-62 with 4:45 remaining.

The RedHawks would finally tie the game at 64 as Michael Weathers converted on a pair of foul shots with just over four minutes to play. As the Bulls' field goal drought continued, Marcus Weathers' layup gave Miami a 66-64 lead, its first since the 16:47 mark of the first half.

The Weathers duo continued to counter UB's scores, leaving Miami with a 70-68 lead with 81 seconds left. Junior forward Logan McLane extended the tally to 72-68, but a foul on a Buffalo 3-pointer allowed it to tie the game with 54 seconds to go. The Bulls once again knotted the game at 74 as the final seconds counted down with Miami putting up multiple shots at the rim.

With 1.4 seconds to go, a foul on junior guard Dion Wade sent him to the line with a chance to put Miami ahead for good. In his first foul shot attempts of the conference season, Wade hit on the first, but a miss gave Buffalo one final shot with one second remaining. The ensuing midcourt attempt was released after the buzzer sounded, giving Miami the one-point victory.

The RedHawks are back at Millett Hall on Saturday, Jan. 28 as they face Eastern Michigan at 3:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
