Baseball
Last Week: The Miami University baseball team had a solid week, going 4-1 in five games. The RedHawks started the week off by downing Xavier, 3-2, in their Joe Nuxhall Classic opener. (Recap) Miami pitcher Brad Schwartz took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, but a late surge by Wright State helped the Raiders defeat Miami, 4-0, in Wednesday's Nuxhall Classic title game. (Recap) In a big MAC East Division battle at Buffalo last weekend, the Red & White began the series with a 6-0 triumph behind a combined shutout from pitchers Gus Graham and Shane Smith. (Recap) The RedHawks' pitching was solid once again on Saturday as Miami gritted out a 3-0 victory to grab the series win. (Recap) The 'Hawks capped off the week by earning their second consecutive MAC sweep as they slid by the Bulls, 7-6, in 12 innings on Sunday. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks look to keep it rolling as they travel to Butler on Tuesday. Then, for the weekend, Miami will head to Pitt to square off with the Panthers in a three game series.
Golf
Last Week: Miami finished 10th at the Boilermaker Invitational among a field that featured several top-50 teams. The RedHawks' top individual finisher was Patrick Flavin, who tied for 23rd. (Saturday Recap) (Sunday Recap) This Week: The RedHawks are idle this week. They return to action at the MAC Championship April 28-30 at the Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio.
Softball
Last Week: Miami finished off a pair of series victories in going 3-1 this week.The RedHawks completed a season-sweep of their series with Bowling Green, knocking off the Falcons, 6-0, on Wednesday. (Recap) Senior outfielder Taylor Shuey went 2-for-4 in the contest with four RBIs and three runs scored to lead Miami to a 10-5 win over Kent State on Friday. She now has 107 RBIs to pass Leslie Macedo's ('07) 105 and become Miami's all-time leader in that category. (Recap) Miami earned a series win over Kent State with a doubleheader split on Saturday. The RedHawks took the opener, 7-5. They then made a valiant comeback attempt, but fell, 9-6, in the nightcap. (Recap) This Week: Miami hits the road for its final non-conference games when it travels to Eastern Kentucky Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. The 'Hawks then host Ohio for their final home series of the season this weekend. The teams will play a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. They will then play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The annual Senior Day ceremony will take place in between the two games on Saturday.
Track and Field
Last Week: The RedHawks traveled to Muncie, Ind. for the Ball State Challenge. The weekend saw Miami pick-up wins in 13 events across the two days of competition. Danielle Collier picked up the first victory for the Hawks throwing 125-2 in the javelin on Friday. Kenny Glenn won both the long jump and the 100m. Arionna Darling won the shot put marking 51-9 to further her lead in the MAC Standings and move into second on the Miami top-10 list. In men's pole vault, Jake Hensh and Matt Owens both cleared 15 feet to finish first and second, with Owens winning on attempts. Maria Scavuzzo brought home the win in the women's 5000m, clocking in at 17:36.31. Jake Brumfield picked up the win for the `Hawks in the 1500m, posting a time of 3:55.47. In the 400m hurdles, the Red and White's Vinnie Minosky brought home the win in 53.26. Kathie Wollney and Morgan Rice took first and second in the 400m hurdles clocking in at 59.97 and 1:01.66, respectively. Alexus Jimson-Miller moved into the top spot on the MAC List in the 100m hurdles clocking in at 13.67. The `Hawks went 1-2 in the men's 400m with Jake Owens setting the pace in 48-39 and Adam Bodrick clocked in at 48.76. Kalliopi Kountouri picked up her first collegiate win in the women's 400m clocking in at 56.27. Miami took four of the top five in the men's 800m with Andrew Dusing clocking in at 1:50.94 for the win. Dusing's time gives him the third fastest time in the MAC and punches his second championship ticket. In the women's race, Megan Beaver finished fourth in 2:11.91 to lead the RedHawks. Beaver's time pushes her to fourth in the conference standings and gives her an automatic bid to the MAC Championships.The men's 3000m steeplechase saw Zack McBride lead the `Hawks to a sweep of the top-four spots, winning in 9:19.28. McBride's performance gives him the second fastest steeplechase time in the MAC. (Friday Recap) (Saturday Recap)This Week: The Red and White will split the team three ways and head to The Virginia Challenge at UVA, The Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State and The Stanford Twilight.
Women's Tennis
Last Week: The RedHawks returned to a winning record for the first time since February as they closed out their home regular-season slate with a pair of wins. On Friday, Miami used a quick doubles point and decisive straight-sets victories from its back-court players to secure a 6-1 victory over Bowling Green. At the last three positions, RedHawk players only surrendered four games in the entire singles competition. (Recap) On Sunday, senior Ana Rajkovic was recognized prior to the match for her terrific four-year career with the RedHawks. Eastern Michigan dominated the doubles portion, grabbing wins at the top two positions, as well as holding a 5-3 lead at the remaining match. The RedHawks would rebound with a singles sweep that earned them a 6-1 result over the Eagles. The comeback was spurred by sophomore Nelli Ponomareva's seventh-consecutive victory and three-set wins from sophomore Hannah Shteyn and freshman Anzhelika Shapovalova. (Recap) This Week: With one week remaining, Miami sits a half-game out of first place in the MAC standings behind co-leaders Ball State and Western Michigan. The RedHawks travel to Northern Illinois for a match on Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a critical meeting with WMU on Sunday at 1 p.m. Miami can clinch a bye in the MAC Women's Tennis Championship and at least a share of the regular-season title with victories in both matchups. The RedHawks can take the outright title with two wins and a Ball State loss to Toledo on Saturday.
