Indoor Track opens up Gladstein Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Miami RedHawks indoor track squad kicked off their third meet of 2016 with strong performances across a number of events.
In high jump action, Jess Baker finish fifth by clearing 5-6 to tie her personal best. In the pole vault, Hope Turner cleared her indoor-best height of 11-8 to finish seventh on attempts.
The fast section of the mile run saw Laura Bess posted a 4:54.73 for seventh place in her individual season debut, giving her the top team time for the 2016 season. Alesha Vovk took fourth in the other heat with a time of 5:01.97, dropping almost 21 seconds from her personal best. Fellow RedHawk Alex Cameron finished 11th with a time of 5:16.53.
Martha Szekely marked 53-6 to lead the RedHawks in the weight throw, finishing 11th overall. Ashley Frahm threw 51-3 for the number two on the Miami squad and a new season best good for 15th place. Katie Walter posted a mark of 49-11 to round out the RedHawk effort with 17th place.
In the 60m hurdles, Alexus Jimson Miller was the first RedHawk to the line finishing in 8.83 seconds to take 11th overall. Caitlyn Redmon's 8.93 performance earned her a new personal best and put her in 15th. Morgan Rice rounded out the Miami competitors with a 9.44 for 26th overall.
Arissa Freeman posted a time of 7.9 in the 60m to lead the way for the Red and White, finishing 12th overall. Briah Owens ran a 7.93 to tie her season best and take 14th. Lauren Schattinger clocked in at 8.29 to finish 30th.
Kathie Wollney posted a time of 58.18 in the 400m to finish 18th.
Kelsey Kohls made her collegiate debut at 3000m posting a time of 10:28.22 to finish 21st. Fellow RedHawk Jackie Mullins posted a time of 11:29.15 to finish 25th.
Action will resume tomorrow at 10:50 a.m. for the RedHawks with the 200m.
