RedHawks Run Strong at Buckeye Tune-up

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Miami University track and field program competed in its final competition before the Mid-American Conference Championships at the Ohio State Tune-Up on Friday.
A highlight of the meet came in the mile when Alesha Vovk posted a time of 4:56.11 to win the event and set a new personal best. Alex Cameron (5:08.86; 6th), Kelsey Kohls (5:13.07; 7th), McKenna Kiple (5:19.14; 8th) all scored for the RedHawks. In the men's race, Kane Dixon made his indoor debut finishing seventh in 4:22.64 fellow RedHawk Cody Reisterer was ninth in 4:24.34. Vovk's time pushes her to the number eight spot on the all-time top-10 performers list, just ahead of Miami standout Rachel Patterson.
In her debut at 800m, Kathie Wollney finished second in 2:15.65. Fellow RedHawk Alexis Szivan was sixth in 2:17.89. Johnathan Fee made his debut in the men's 800m, finishing seventh in 1:57.77.
Alexus Jimson-Miller took fifth in the 60m hurdles clocking in at 8.64.
Kalliopi Kountouri posted a time of 57.90 in the 400m to finish sixth on the day. In the men's 400, Jake Owens was fourth in 49.79, Vincent Minosky was seventh in 51.52 and Aaron Mursean (52.98) and Ryan Sims (53.26) rounded out the RedHawk competitors in 10th and 11th.
Jake Owens and Avery Taylor were the top RedHawks at 200m, finishing fourth (22.62) and seventh (23.06), respectively. Morgan Rice picked up points for the Red and White finishing 8th in 26.80.
The duo of Kirsten Petrosky and Taylor Broerman collected three points for the RedHawks in the 3000m, finishing in 10:25.90 (7th) and 10:26.12 (8th) respectively. The 4x400m squad of Rice, Jimson-Miller, Wollney and Kalliopi Kountouri finished sixth in 4:00.78.
In field action, Martha Szekely finished fifth marking 57-10 in the weight throw. In the pole vault, Hope Turner cleared 11-6.5 finishing fourth; Lauren Boyd and Emily Fletchall tied each other at 11-0.75 for sixth. Jake Hensh and Matt Owens both cleared 15-1.75 in the pole vault. However, Hensh finished ninth and Owens was 11th on attempts.
In the shot put, Arionna Darling led the 'Hawks finishing sixth with a mark of 49-1.5, Ashley Frahm was seventh marking 45-11.75 and Katie Walter set a new personal best throwing 45-5.25 to finish ninth. In the men's contest, Andrew Vollet marked 52-9.25 to finish ninth.
In the team scoring, the women were fourth with 60. The RedHawk men finished seventh with 18 points.
A selected squad from the RedHawks will compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational tomorrow at Notre Dame. Competition will begin at 10 a.m.
