FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - After Miami allowed just one goal all weekend in a sweep at Michigan State, senior goalie Connor Knapp was named CCHA Goaltender of the Week and senior defenseman Cameron Schilling was tabbed CCHA Gladiator Defenseman of the Week, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Monday.
The pair of RedHawks is the eighth and ninth 'Hawks to earn a CCHA weekly honor this season but the awards are the first for both this year. Schilling has now won CCHA Defenseman of the Week twice in his career, also winning it once last year, while he is the third Miami defenseman to win it this season as classmate Chris Wideman and junior Steven Spinell also have won CCHA Defenseman of the Week in 2011-12. The Goaltender of the Week award is the first of Knapp's career and he is the first RedHawk to win the honor this season.

Knapp (York, N.Y.) had a stellar weekend in net, allowing just one goal in two games for a 0.49 goals-against average while stopping 53 of 54 shots for a .981 save percentage. Friday, he allowed his only goal of the weekend while making 33 saves, his second-most this season, as Miami won in overtime. Of his 33 saves, 11 came on Spartan power plays, including a 5-on-3, but he denied all five of MSU's man advantages. Saturday he pitched his first shutout of the year and ninth of his career by stopping all 20 shots that came his way, 11 of which came on eight Spartan power plays but again he denied all eight man advantages. He earned third star in Saturday's victory and now has 36 career wins, which moved him into a tie for fifth in school history.

Schilling (Carmel, Ind.) played a vital role in Miami's sweep at No. 15 Michigan State, both offensively and defensively. On the defensive end, he helped Miami allow just one goal all weekend while aiding in Miami's shutout Saturday when the 'Hawks gave up just 20 shots on goal. He also played on Miami's penalty kill that went a perfect 13-for-13 on the weekend, including 8-for-8 Saturday. In addition, Schilling blocked four shots on the weekend, including three Saturday. Offensively, he had a pair of assists in Saturday's 4-0 win, both of which were the primary assist on Miami's first two goals, the first of which was the game-winner. It was his second multi-point game this year. He had a +2 rating in Saturday's game as well as he was on the ice for three of Miami's four goals. He did not commit a single penalty all weekend, either, and was the No. 2 star in Saturday's game.
On the year, Knapp has a 5-4-0 record with a 2.17 GAA and .917 save percentage in nine games (eight starts) with one shutout. Schilling has played in 21 games and has nine points on a goal and eight assists with a +6 rating. He has also blocked 29 shots.
Miami looks to keep its strong defense going when it returns to the ice this weekend at No. 19 Lake Superior State Friday and Saturday. Game time Friday is at 7:35 p.m. while Saturday is at 7:05 p.m.
