No. 1 Miami vs. No. 4 New Hampshire
March 26, 2011 - Verizon Wireless Arena
Miami Coach Enrico Blasi Opening remarks: "I congratulate UNH and Coach Umile. They deserved to win. They got the job done."
On comparing other tough Miami losses in the postseason: "It stings because of the seniors...two Frozen Fours, a conference regular season, a conference [tournament] championship. Other than Boston College, I'm not sure there's a senior class that has a better record than our seniors."
Final thoughts: "Tonight wasn't our night. I take responsibility for that. That's on me. UNH played well so don't take anything away from them. If it wasn't for [Miami goalie] Cody [Reichard] making several difficult saves, it could have been worse. Don't lose sight of the fact of what this team has done. I want to leave it at that...what the seniors accomplished."
Carter Camper, Miami Senior Forward On UNH's offense: "They did a great job retrieving [the puck] in the slot. It wasn't just their defensemen but their wingers as well. Me, myself...I don't remember how many [shots] I tried to get through but they were sacrificing the body [blocking shots] and I know we took more than 22 shots but that's what got through."
On the past 4 years at Miami: "I remember as a freshman Jonesy [former Miami captain Ryan Jones] was in the same spot as a captain who lost in a regional. He said he knew we'd get to a Frozen Four and he was right. It's my turn now and we made it to two Frozen Fours. It's been a great four years and Miami will win [a national championship] someday, I know that."
Pat Cannone, Miami Senior Forward On the loss in general: "We were pretty good coming in. But UNH had a good game and a good game plan that they executed well. All the credit in the world should go to them."
Cody Reichard Miami Goaltender On facing UNH: "We knew it was going to be tough coming in here. They had the home crowd. We jumped on them early but they got it back. We just didn't execute. On UNH offensive chances: We knew they were going to come. Their game plan is transition. Credit to them for executing their game plan."
UNH Head Coach Dick Umile Opening remarks: "Let me start by congratulating Miami. We had a major challenge coming into tonight's game. We knew we had to play our best game all season to win and I believe we did that tonight."
Mike Sislo, New Hampshire Senior Forward On the game-winning goal: "It was a great pass...it's the type of play forwards dream about for a defensemen to find you backdoor and he did. It's a result of hard work. Blake's vision was great and it was a great play by him."
On confidence: "You have different goals throughout the year. Getting in [the tournament] was a goal, winning the tournament is the ultimate goal. We were excited to get in and the past was behind us. We just wanted to move forward and focus on Miami."
On the game plan: "We wanted to move our feet and work hard and we said when we do those things, good things will happen and it did. They had a few penalties but there weren't any dirty or cheap plays so it wasn't too difficult to stay disciplined. We just had to focus and work hard and we did."
On offensive depth: "For the last month [that line] has been playing unbelievable. We knew coming in that we had depth and it was huge for us tonight. All our lines played well, it came together in the last month and I'm sure it will continue."
On the win: "It's right up there with all of them. We're focused on one thing [a national championship] and we're onto the next step. We're excited to see who we'll play tomorrow. We worked hard and are ready for the same tomorrow."
Matt Di Girolamo, New Hampshire Junior Goaltender On blocked shots: "It was unbelievable. I love it when they block shots. The defense did a great job but the wingers did too. Defense comes from offense and it showed tonight."
On the Miami goal: "It was a great play by them. It was in the corner, I thought [Kessel] was still on the ice but he wasn't so that was my misread on the play. It hit my glove, then the post, he got it on his stick and he batted it in."
