Final Stats

TOLEDO, Ohio--Julian Mavunga's put-back layup with two seconds left lifted Miami to a 68-66 win over Toledo on Saturday evening at Savage Arena. It is the fourth straight win for the RedHawks (13-12; 8-3 Mid-American Conference) and their fourth road win of the season.

Senior forward Nick Winbush paced the RedHawks with 16 points, going 4-for-6 from 3-point range, and tallying six rebounds and two blocked shots. Mavunga added 13 points and a team-best eight rebounds, sophomore guard Allen Roberts recorded 14 points and freshman guard Josh Sewell posted 10 points.

Miami used an early 6-0 run and then a 5-0 run to build a nine-point lead, its largest of the game, in the first half. A Winbush dunk with 11:49 to play gave Miami a 19-10 advantage. But Toledo (4-21; 1-10 MAC) went on an 11-2 surge to knot the game at the 7:38 mark, 21-21. Miami pushed its lead back to five points off a Winbush trey with 4:09 to play, 30-25. Toledo's Malcolm Griffin sunk one of two free throws and Anthony Wright knocked down a 3-pointer with 41 seconds left to put the Rockets within one of the RedHawks heading into the half, 30-29.

The RedHawks hit 45.8 percent of their field goals and the Rockets sunk 42.3 percent of theirs in the first half. Each team heated up its shooting in the second half with Miami connecting on 54.5 percent of its field goals and Toledo knocking down 63.6 percent of its attempts in the final 20 minutes.

A pair of Mavunga free throws put Miami's lead at six points with 15:21 to play, 39-33. A pair of Justin Anyijong 3-pointers quickly knotted the game a 39 with 14:08 remaining. Miami led by three points four times before Toledo took its first lead since the opening bucket at the 7:01 mark off an Anyijong 3-pointer, 54-53.

Toledo took a seven-point lead off a Reese Holliday layup with 3:07 remaining, 66-59, but Miami would not relent. The RedHawks went on a 9-0 run over the remaining minutes to seize the two-point victory. Winbush ignited the surge with a 3-pointer at the 2:49 mark. Roberts powered in a pair of layups with 2:16 to play and with 47 seconds left to knot the game 66-66. Sophomore guard Orlando Williams came up with a critical steal with 32 seconds left to allow Miami the final possession of the game.

The RedHawks ran down the clock, and Roberts took a jumper that was off the mark with seven seconds remaining. Mavunga hauled in the offensive rebound and went straight back up, laying in the game-winning put back with two seconds left.

Griffin led the Rockets with 20 points and seven assists, while Holliday tallied 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
