OXFORD, Ohio -- A 27-11 run midway through the second half helped Miami reverse a nine-point deficit, leading to a 89-75 victory over Ball State Tuesday night at Millett Hall. The RedHawks, who had trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half, hit a school-record 16 three-pointers in the game.

Julian Mavunga had a double-double with a career-high 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Josh Sewell bested his career high of six points by knocking in 20. Nick Winbush (16) and Allen Roberts (13) also reached double figures for Miami (10-12, 5-3).

After Mavunga opened the scoring with a pair of free throws, Ball State (13-8, 5-3) exploded with a 14-2 run that included three three-pointers by Jauwan Scaife. Mavunga ended the run with a three-pointer and layp that gave him all of the RedHawks' first nine points.

Ball State answered with an 18-9 run that gave the Cardinals their biggest lead of the game, 32-18 at the 7:16 mark. But Miami responded as Mavunga scored seven points during a 13-6 spurt to cut the margin to 44-39 in the final minute before halftime. The score was 46-39 at the break.

The Cardinals went back up by nine, 54-45 at the 16:04 mark, before Miami took control. Sewell and Winbush connected on back-to-back threes to bring the RedHawks to within three, 54-51 at the 13:40 mark. After three BSU free throws, Miami canned five three-pointers over the next 4:04 to retake the lead. The last three triples -- one by Mavunga and a pair by Winbush -- turned a 63-59 deficit into a 68-63 advantage.

Miami later used a 10-0 run in the final three minutes to stretch a 77-72 lead to its biggest point, 87-72.

The 16 threes broke the previous mark of 15 that Miami hit last year at Kentucky. Mavunga finished the game with five, one shy of the school record, while Winbush added five.

Miami shot 54.2 percent from the contest, including 55.2 percent in the opening period. The RedHawks held a 35-31 advantage on the boards and blocked nine shots. The 50 second-half points were a season high, topping the 47 points in the second half against Xavier on Dec. 1.

Miami hits the road on Saturday for an afternoon tilt at Eastern Michigan.
