The RedHawks went 16-for-32 from 3-point range. The 16 3-pointers set a school record for made 3-pointers in a game, surpassing the previous record of 15 set last year at Kentucky on Nov. 16. Junior forward Julian Mavunga went 5-of-7 from 3-point range against the Cardinals.
Miami amassed nine blocked shots, which ties for fifth on the RedHawks' all-time top 10 list. Nick Winbush tallied three blocked shots and Orlando Williams set a career-high for blocked shots also with three.
Junior forward Julian Mavunga finished with a career-high 27 points. It was his fourth 20-point scoring effort in six games. He also amassed 11 rebounds to post his second double-double of the season. He tied a career high with seven assists.
For the seventh time this season, Miami had four players score in double figures: Julian Mavunga 27, Josh Sewell 20, Nick Winbush 16, Allen Roberts 13. It was the second time this season Miami had two players score 20 points in a game.
Junior forward Julian Mavunga scored Miami's first nine points. Chris McHenry was the first RedHawk to score besides Mavunga, hitting a 3-pointer at 12:08 in the first half. Mavunga had 16 first-half points, the most in the first half by a RedHawk this season. Mavunga also had 16 in the second half against Akron on Jan. 19.
Freshman guard Josh Sewell surpassed his previous career high for points (6 at Duke) in the first 15 minutes of the game. He finished with 20 points, two less than the total number of points he has scored this season. He also set a new career high for minutes played with 31 and also tied his career highs for rebounds (3) and assists (1).
Ball State's Jauwan Scaife went 5-for-5 from 3-point range over the first 13 minutes of the game. He paced the Cardinals with 18 first-half points but finished with 22.
Miami's 89 points are its most in regulation this season and second only to its 92 points in triple-overtime against Ohio on Jan. 9. The RedHawks pounded out 50 second-half points its most points in a half this season. The RedHawks scored 47 second-half points against Xavier on Dec. 1.
The RedHawks trailed the Cardinals 14 points in the first half. Miami chiseled away at the BSU advantage and used a 13-2 second-half run to take a 72-65 lead by the 7:41 mark. Miami led by as many as 15 in the second half.
