Miami Hockey Postgame Notes Miami extended its season-long unbeaten streak to five games with the 4-0 win Friday. The RedHawks move to 6-6-1 overall to reach .500 for the first time since Oct. 15, when a 3-2 overtime loss at Colgate dropped Miami to 2-2. The RedHawks are also 4-4-1-1 in the CCHA now, their first time at .500 in the conference this season.
Miami won its 12th-straight game against the Falcons Friday and 19th in the last 20 meetings. The RedHawks' last loss to Bowling Green was Jan. 4, 2008. Head coach Enrico Blasi, facing his former assistant coach and former teammate in BGSU head coach Chris Bergeron, improved to 27-8-2 against the Falcons behind Miami's bench.
Senior goaltender Cody Reichard recorded his 11th career shutout and Miami's first of the 2011-12 season with 23 saves. Reichard is now just one whitewash shy of tying David Burleigh ('03) for the Miami career shutouts record with 12. The win also brings Reichard to 49 career wins, just six behind Jeff Zatkoff ('08) for second place on the all-time wins list for the `Hawks.
Freshman forward Blake Coleman scored two goals on the night, which was his first multi-goal and multi-point game of his career. He now has four points on the season with three goals and one assist.
Junior defenseman Garrett Kennedy recorded his first goal of the season at 5:11 of the second period. It was the second of his career and first since Dec. 4, 2010 vs. Notre Dame.
Senior co-captain Alden Hirschfeld recorded an assist on Kennedy's goal to give him his team-leading sixth assist of the season. He now has a point in eight of 13 games this year.
Miami was 4-for-4 on the penalty kill against BGSU Friday. The RedHawks have now killed 26 consecutive opponent power plays, a stretch of six consecutive games.
This weekend is Miami Hockey's Alumni Weekend and appropriately enough, Bowling Green is coached by former Miami captain and assistant coach Chris Bergeron ('93). BGSU assistant coach Barry Schutte ('97) is also a Miami graduate and former team captain.
The 4-0 win marked Miami's first game this season (in 13 games) that was not decided by two goals or less. The four goals also tied a season high, as Miami also notched four Oct. 14 at Colgate.
Freshman forward Tyler Biggs tallied an assist on Miami's third goal Friday, giving him a point in six of seven games.
Junior forward Curtis McKenzie had a goal and an assist for his first multi-point game of the year and the 11th of his career. Senior forward Trent Vogelhuber tallied two assists for his first multi-point game of the year as well and the sixth of his career.
