Hockey Holds Faceoff Event Wednesday Night

OXFORD, Ohio -Over 160 Miami Hockey fans were on hand to celebrate last year's Mason Cup championship and get fired up about the start of the 2011-12 season, as the RedHawks held their second annual Faceoff Event Wednesday night at the Shriver Center. Th event was co-sponsored by the Blue Line Club and the Red & White Club.
The evening started with the Band of Brotherhood hockey pep band playing some tunes to get the crowd fired up. Blue Line Club president Bill Taylor and associate athletic director Jude Killy, on behalf of the Red & White Club, then each spoke to welcome the crowd. A delicious buffet dinner followed while a player sat at each table with the fans.
Following dinner, athletic director Brad Bates addressed the crowd and discussed the NCHC, which Miami is a founding member of and will begin play in 2013-14. A highlight video of the program's success was also shown. Tim Derickson from the Ohio House of Representatives then read a proclamation congratulating Miami on winning the Mason Cup on behalf of the state of Ohio. He and head coach Enrico Blasi then awarded the returning players their Mason Cup championship rings while the freshmen were introduced afterward.
Senior co-captain Will Weber and Blasi each addressed the crowd and answered questions before the freshmen delighted the crowd with a rousing rendition of the fight song. The evening ended with a raffle in which several great prizes were handed out. Steve Baker, the Voice of the RedHawks, emceed the event.
A photo gallery of the event is above. Miami opens the season Oct. 7-8 against Bemidji State at Steve Cady Arena. Friday's game is set for 7:35 p.m. while prior to the game Miami will unveil its 2011 CCHA Tournament championship banner. Fans are asked to wear white to "White Out" the arena.
