Taken in the second round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets (53rd overall pick).

2010-11
Assistant Captain...saw action 33 games, missing four games while recovering from a neck laceration obtained in the game against Northern Michigan on Oct. 23...notched 11 points on one goal and 10 assists...scored his only goal against Bowling Green on Nov. 19...recorded a season-high two points against Michigan State (Jan. 21) on two assists, his second career multi-point game...finished the year with a rating of +7...was tied for second on the team with 36 blocked shots...was whistled for 23 penalties totaling 57 minutes...named to the 2011 CCHA All-Tournament team.

2009-10
Won Best Defensive Defensemen award in the CCHA... played in 43 games for the RedHawks, missing just the season opener vs. St. Cloud State (Oct. 9)... registered 10 points (1g, 9a)... scored his only goal of the season against Lake Superior State (Feb. 6), which was also the game-winner... recorded a career-high two assists against UNH (Oct. 16) for his first career multi-point game... achieved a +4 rating Feb. 6 against the Lakers and finished the year at +12... was second on the team with 42 blocked shots... took 54 shots... earned 31 penalties for 62 minutes.

2008-09
Saw action in 38 games... tallied five points on three goals and two assists... scored his first goal as a RedHawk against RPI (Dec. 14)... added scores at Nebraska-Omaha (Jan. 24) and Northern Michigan (March 15)... notched the first point of his collegiate career with an assist against Vermont (Oct. 17)... added another helper in the national semifinal vs. Bemidji State... had an overall rating of plus-seven, including plus-three on three occasions... credited with 51 shots, including five during the Ferris State game Nov. 7... led the team in penalties and penalty minutes with 32 and 75, respectively.

Prior to Miami
Played four years of high school hockey and four years of varsity soccer for Gaylord High School in Michigan... played 46 games for the Chicago Steel of USHL, scoring 10 goals and handing out 18 assists... two-time defenseman of the week in the USHL... named to the All-State Dream Team... a first-team all-state selection... also named academic all-state... member of Michigan High School Hockey State runners-up in 2004... four-year honor student... second-round draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
