RedHawks Ranked No. 7 in USA Today Poll

OXFORD, Ohio - After a second straight series split, the Miami hockey team now ranks seventh nationally in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll while moving to 10th in the USCHO.com Poll, both of which were released Monday. The RedHawks, who have been ranked in the top 10 for 45 of the last 51 polls dating back to the start of 2009-10, were ranked No. 4 in the USA Today Poll and No. 5 in the USCHO.com Poll last week.
Miami (2-2-0, 0-0-0 CCHA) earned 275 points in the USA Today Poll while picking up 599 points in the USCHO.com Poll. In the USA Today Poll, North Dakota sits just ahead of the RedHawks at No. 6 with 320 points while Boston University is just two points behind Miami in eighth. In the USCHO.com Poll, Yale, who is yet to play a game, is one point ahead of the 'Hawks at No. 9 while CCHA foe Western Michigan is 11th with 510 points.
Despite suffering a loss to No. 3 Denver last weekend, Boston College retained its No. 1 ranking in the USA Today Poll with 463 points and 15 first-place votes. CCHA rival Michigan rose from No. 5 to No. 2 in the poll while Denver stayed at No. 3. Colorado College moved up four spots to No. 4 while fellow CCHA rival Notre Dame, who was No. 2 last week, rounds out the USA Today Poll top five after splitting with Ohio State over the weekend.
Following North Dakota, Miami and BU, Yale sits at No. 9 while Minnesota ranks 10th in the USA Today Poll. Union College stays at No. 11 while CCHA member Western Michigan remained at No. 12 as did Merrimack at No. 13. Colgate, who split with Miami last weekend, enters the USA Today Poll at No. 14 while defending national champion Minnesota Duluth ranks 15th after being swept by the Golden Gophers. Ferris State, who Miami plays this weekend, is the top team among other teams receiving votes.
Michigan is the new No. 1 team in the USCHO.com Poll with 933 points and 24 first-place votes while Boston College is not far behind at No. 2 with 927 points and 15 first-place votes. Like the USA Today Poll, Denver and Colorado College are third and fourth while North Dakota rounds out the top five. The Fighting Irish are No. 6, dropping from No. 2, while Boston University and Minnesota are ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, each earning a first-place vote.
Behind Yale and Miami is Western Michigan, the fourth CCHA team ranked in the USCHO.com Poll, at No. 11, while Union is 12th and Merrimack No. 13. The RedHawks' opponent this weekend, Ferris State, enters the polls for the first time this season at No. 14 while defending national champion Minnesota Duluth ranks 15th in the 20-team poll. Colgate enters the USCHO.com Poll at No. 16 while CCHA members Northern Michigan at No. 17 and Lake Superior at No. 19 are also ranked, giving the CCHA seven ranked teams in the USCHO.com Poll, the most among any conference.
