FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Miami University junior forward Reilly Smith has been named CCHA Offensive Player of the Week, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Monday, for the week of Oct. 10-16. The honor is the third of his career.
In his first two games of the season last weekend, Smith made quite an impact, totaling five points on four goals and an assist to lead Miami to a split at Colgate. On Friday, Smith had a hand in all four goals as he tallied his second career hat trick while also adding an assist on Miami's other goal, giving him a career-high four points. It was his 10th career multi-goal game with his other hat trick coming on Oct. 23, 2010 against Northern Michigan. He scored the RedHawks' first goal and the game-winning goal for Miami in Friday's 4-3 win, notching his final two goals just over three minutes apart early in the third period.
On Saturday, Smith scored Miami's second goal, his fourth of the season, which put the RedHawks ahead in the third period. He recorded a +1 rating in each game giving him a +2 rating for the weekend. He scored his four goals on just six shots on goal (.667 shooting percentage). The Dallas Stars prospect's 2.50 points per game and 2.00 goals per game are both first nationally.
Smith, a 2010-11 First-Team All-CCHA selection, earned his other CCHA weekly honors last year for the week of Oct. 25-31, 2010 and Jan. 10-16, 2011. He is also a unanimous 2011-12 Preseason All-CCHA First-Team pick.
Smith looks to keep his hot start to the season rolling when the RedHawks return to the ice Oct. 21-22 at Ferris State to open CCHA Play. Puck drop both nights is set for 7:05 p.m.
