Final Stats
OXFORD, Ohio - The Central Michigan volleyball team handed the Miami RedHawks a 1-3 (13-25, 25-21, 20-25, 12-25) defeat Saturday evening at Millett Hall. Amy Raseman led the RedHawks with 11 kills, while Madison Hardy had 21 digs. Miami is now 12-10 overall and 3-5 in the Mid-American Conference. The Chippewas are 12-7 overall and 5-3 in the MAC.
Set one went CMU's way from the beginning as it took 17 of the first 21 points to take a 17-4 lead. The RedHawks fought back as kills by Christina Menche, Jenn Caylor and Lisa Treadway helped the RedHawks pull as close as 12 at 10-22. Miami would not get any closer, as the Chippewas took the first set, 25-13.
Set two was back and forth with 12 ties and six lead changes in the first 24 points. After a kill by Central gave it a 13-12 lead, a kill from Menche began a 4-0 run that gave Miami a 16-13 advantage. The RedHawks would eventually increase the lead to seven at 21-14, topped off by two straight service aces from Menche. A 6-3 run by CMU would make it 23-20, but a kill by Caylor and an attack error by the Chippewas would eventually give Miami a 25-21 win.
A kill by Raseman and block from Amy Kendall and Cassie Farrell would help keep the RedHawks in set three to start. Tied at seven, Central Michigan went on a 6-3 run to take a 13-10 lead. The teams would trade points until it was 19-16 in favor of the Chippewas. Two kills from Caylor and a CMU attack error would tie the score at 19; however Central would score the next three points to regain control. Raseman would put down another kill off a Kendall assist, but that would be all Miami would get as the Chippewas took the set, 25-20.
Similar to the first set, Central Michigan won the fourth set by taking control early, building a 14-5 lead. Caylor and Chelsea Visk would each put down kills, but the RedHawks would not get any closer, eventually falling, 12-25.
In addition to Raseman's 11 kills, Caylor had nine. Farrell recorded five blocks, while Kendall led the way with 30 assists. Menche had a career-high three service aces in the match.
Miami hits the road for two MAC matches next weekend. The RedHawks travel to MAC West Division leading Ball State on Friday for a 7 p.m. contest. They will complete the week with a trip to Toledo on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match.
