OXFORD, Ohio -- Senior Jarod Palmer and sophomore Cody Reichard were named weekly awardwinners by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association following a sweep of Michigan, the league office announced Monday. Palmer took home the Player of the Week Award, while Reichard was tabbed as Goaltender of the Week.
Palmer, a forward from Fridley, Minn., scored two goals and had an assist against the Wolverines, finishing the weekend at plus-one. Both of his goals came in the first 8:46 of the first period Friday, helping the RedHawks set the tone in the 3-1 win. He dished out the assist on Andy Miele's game-winner on Saturday night. Palmer now has 104 career points to rank tied for 39th on Miami's all-time list.
Reichard, a native of Celina, Ohio, allowed just two goals during the weekend, for a 1.00 goals-against average. He stopped 47 of 49 shot attempts (.959 save percentage), including a penalty shot Friday night that kept the score 2-0. Reichard is now 7-0-1 this season in net.
In other news Monday, Miami increased its hold on the No. 1 national ranking with its wins over the then-No. 4 Wolverines. The RedHawks received 49 of 50 first-place votes and 999 points in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports poll, while being listed on the top of 33 of the 34 ballots in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll.
The RedHawks also hold the top position in the Inside College Hockey Power Ratings.
After playing back-to-back weekends on the road, Miami returns to Steve Cady Arena on Friday and Saturday for a seried with CCHA rival Ferris State. Face off times are at 7:35 p.m. and 7:05 p.m., respectively, with both games being air statewide on the Ohio News Network.
