Final Stats
DEKALB, Ill. - Despite sophomore Jenn Caylor recording the first career double-double (11 kills, 11 digs) of her career, Miami fell 0-3 to Northern Illinois Saturday night in DeKalb. The RedHawks are now 8-8 overall and 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference. The Huskies are 7-10 overall and 1-3 in the MAC.
It didn't start well for Miami in set one as Northern Illinois raced to a 6-0 lead. The Huskies kept the pressure on, extending that lead to 8-1, until the RedHawks answered with a 14-6 run to take the advantage themselves at 15-14. During that run, Caylor recorded five kills, including four in a row at one point. The Huskies followed Miami's run by scoring the next six points to go ahead 20-15, a lead they never relinquished as they took the set, 25-20.
After two early kills by Maria Leahy and Michele Metzler tied set two at 2-2, an 8-5 run put Northern Illinois in front, 10-7. While The RedHawks would try to keep it close thanks to strong showings by Megan Griffin and Metzler with three kills apiece, Miami could not get the score any closer and the Huskies took set two, 25-21.
Set three was tight early as the teams traded the first 22 points. From there, a 5-0 run by Northern Illinois gave it a 16-11 lead. Metzler pulled the RedHawks to within three at 13-16 with a kill and a service ace, but the Huskies closed out the match with a 9-6 run to win, 25-19.
In addition to Caylor's double-double, Metzler recorded double-digit kills with 10. Colleen Loftus led the way with 17 digs, while Andrea Atteberry had 29 assists.
Miami continues MAC play on the road next week when it travels to Kent State for a 7 p.m. match on Oct. 9.
