OXFORD, Ohio -- Michael Bramos scored eight of his game-high 28 points in a span of 91 seconds, helping Miami pull away from Valparaiso in a 62-50 victory Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall. The senior continued his torrid shooting pace, hitting six of nine three-point attempts and 11 of 14 overall.
Eric Pollitz also reached double figures with 11 points, while Tyler Dierkers added nine points and eight rebounds. Jake Diebler and Michael Rogers each tallied 10 points to lead the visitors.
Miami (6-3) never trailed in winning its fourth straight game. However, the RedHawks never could pull away until the final minutes. With the score 31-30, Dierkers hit a jumper at the 13:52 mark, then Bramos canned a pair of three-pointers around a two-pointer to make the lead eight, 41-33.
Valpo (3-6) later closed to within three, 47-44, with 7:49 to play, but Bramos went back to work. His three was the first of eight straight points, then another three capped the run at 13-3, giving Miami its biggest lead of the game, 60-47.
Miami led by as many as eight points in the first half, but could only stake claim to a 29-26 advantage at the break. The Crusaders actually turned in a better shooting performance in the game, hitting 51.3 percent to the RedHawks' 48.8 percent. However, Valpo converted only four of 13 threes, while Miami tallied nine on 20 attempts.
Miami now takes a week off for final exams, returning to action next Saturday at West Virginia. The 12 noon game will be televised by ESPNU.
