OXFORD, Ohio--William Hatcher recorded his fourth 20-point scoring effort of the season with 21 points and Nathan Peavy added 17 points to lead Miami University's men's basketball team to a 65-54 win over Ohio on Wednesday evening at Millett Hall.

The win, the RedHawks' fifth straight, improved Miami to 14-8 overall and 11-3 in Mid-American Conference play, while Ohio dropped to 14-8 overall and 8-6 in MAC action.

Johnnie Jackson sunk a trey with 15:24 remaining in the first half and Leon Williams hit one of two free throws at the 14:29 mark to give Ohio an 11-9 lead, but that would be the Bobcats' last lead of the game. Miami went on a 9-0 run with Peavy drilling the go-ahead trey with 13:54 left in the first half to start the surge as the RedHawks built an 18-11 lead with 10:25 remaining.

A pair of treys by Sonny Troutman and Antonio Chatman quickly cut the RedHawk advantage to one, 18-17, by the 9:34 mark. Tim Pollitz finessed in a layup with 9:03 remaining in the half to start a 20-5 RedHawk scoring flurry to round out the half, with Hatcher capping the surge by nailing a jumper just inside the 3-point line with one second left to send the `Hawks into the locker room with a 38-22 lead.

In the second half, Miami extended its lead to 22 points, 55-33, off a Hatcher trey with 12:29 remaining and further pushed its lead to a game-high 23 points off another Tim Pollitz layup with 8:19 left to give the RedHawks a 63-40 lead. Ohio outscored Miami 14-2 over the final minutes of the game to make the final margin 65-54.

Hatcher and Peavy led all scorers with 20 and 17 points, respectively. Peavy also tallied a game-best seven rebounds.

Troutman and Jackson paced the Bobcats with 14 points apiece.

Miami returns to action in the second game of a women's and men's doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 18 when the RedHawks face Illinois State at 4:30 p.m. Miami's women's basketball team takes on Ohio at 2 p.m.

NOTES: Miami (11-3) remains one game out of first place in the Mid-American Conference standings behind Kent State (12-2) and Akron (12-2) ... shooting 50.0 percent from the field, the RedHawks posted their third 50 percent or better shooting effort from the field over their last four games ... Tim Pollitz dished out a game-high-tying five assists and added a career-high-tying three steals ... Peavy went 3-for-3 from 3-point range for the game.
