Miami Defeats Dayton In Home Opener, 58-42

OXFORD, Ohio--Behind a 14-point, 10-rebound effort from junior forward Nathan Peavy--his second double-double in as many outings--Miami University's men's basketball team collected a 58-42 win over Dayton and Miami head coach Charlie Coles recorded his 250th career win.

Miami used a 44.0 percent shooting effort, while Dayton was limited to 29.4 percent shooting on the night. While the Flyers out-rebounded the RedHawks 42-23, Dayton committed a whopping 26 turnovers, which Miami converted into 18 points.

The RedHawks got out to an early 8-2 lead by the 16:12 mark with sophomore forward Tim Pollitz scoring six of Miami's first eight points. Dayton was able to close within two points twice, 8-6 and 15-13, but closed out the first half on a 14-4 flurry, spurred by back-to-back 3-pointers from Peavy and sophomore guard Doug Penno, to post a 29-17 lead at the break.

In the same fashion it ended the first half, Miami continued to roll in the second half. A trey by sophomore guard Chad Troyer handed Miami its largest lead of the game, 26 points, at the 7:57 mark, 53-27. A 3-pointer by freshman forward Michael Bramos with 4:34 remaining would again put Miami up 26 points, 56-30. Dayton was able to close out the game on a 12-2 spurt to make the final tally58-42.

Peavy's 14 points and 10 rebounds led all players. Tim Pollitz added 12 points, while William Hatcher chipped in 11 points.

Brian Roberts was the lone Flyer to score in double figures, tallying 13 points.

Miami returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 30 in the second game of a Miami men's and women's basketball doubleheader with Wright State. The women's game starts at 6 p.m., while the men's game follows at 8 p.m.

Notes: Miami won its 15th consecutive home opener and is 81-20 in home-opening games ... Hatcher had a career-high four steals ... Tim Pollitz had a career-high 12 points and four assists ... although Miami shot just six free throws for the game, they connected on all six attempts.
