OXFORD, Ohio (AP) - Nathan Peavy scored 15 points and started a pivotal second-half run Wednesday, leading Miami to an 85-60 victory over Western Michigan in a matchup of the Mid-American Conference's two division leaders.
Miami (11-5, 6-2) used a balanced attack, stifling defense and a strong showing on the boards to build a 12-point lead by halftime. Peavy had a layup and a 3-pointer as Miami opened the second half with a 13-3 run, pushing its lead to 49-27.
Western Michigan (13-5, 6-2) came into the game as the conference's top rebounding team, but got beat on the boards 41-34. Miami had 33 defensive rebounds, limiting the Broncos to one shot at a time. Danny Horace led Miami with 10 rebounds.
Ben Reed scored a game-high 26 points for Western Michigan, which shot only 31 percent from the field. Peavy led five RedHawks in double figures.
The Broncos have dropped two in a row after winning seven straight. They had their 25-game home winning streak stopped Saturday with a 66-65 loss to Ball State.
Miami improved to 8-0 at Millett Hall, the RedHawks' best home mark since they went 11-0 in 1998-99.
