Brian Sipotz Drafted In Fourth Round By Atlanta Thrashers

OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University defenseman Brian Sipotz (Granger, Ind./Culver Military Academy) was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round of the National Hockey League Entry Draft. He was the 100th overall pick in the draft.
As a freshman, Sipotz played in 32 of Miami's 38 contests. He recorded his first collegiate assist in a 4-2 victory versus Bowling Green. Prior to his arrival at Miami, Sipotz led his Culver Military Academy team with a plus/minus rating of +15 in 1999-00.
"Brian was a solid player for us last season and I am happy to see that his hardwork has not gone unnoticed," commented head coach Enrico Blasi, "His raw power and competitive spirit are an invaluable asset for any hockey player at any level. We are proud to see a member of the Miami family selected in the NHL entry draft."
The Miami hockey team finished the 2000-01 ledger with a 20-16-2 record and 17-10-1 conference mark. The RedHawks finished second in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and seek the top spot in 2001-02.
