Made 13 appearances during his freshman season, making four starts... made his collegiate debut against Marist on Feb. 27, stiking out two in an inning of work... was 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA... allowed 30 hits and 23 runs (21 earned) in 37.1 innings pitched... struck out 17, while walking 10... made three of his starts in March (7th vs. Yale, 15th at Xavier and 20th at Morehead State)... got no decision in his longest outing of the year, 6.0 innings vs. the Bulldogs in Florida... allowed two runs (one earned) and four hits... earned his first collegiate victory with 1.2 innings of scoreless work vs. Eastern Kentucky on March 23... struck out a season-high four at Ohio on May 21... fanned three in his next appearance, vs. Kent State on May 28.

A four-year varsity letterwinner in baseball... was the Southern Buckeye Conference Player of the Year as a senior... named All-SBC as a junior and senior... a second-team all-state pick... was selected as the area[apos]s Division II Player of the Year by the Cincinnati Enquirer... posted a 7-1 record and 2.10 ERA that season... struck out 99 batters... earned three basketball letters, earning first-team all-league honors as a senior... played soccer as a junior and senior... selected by his teachers to participate in the county-wide Clermont 20/20 Leadership Program.

Born Jan. 27, 1992 in Cincinnati, Ohio... son of Timothy and Karen Varner... his uncle, Chuck, played football at Miami and was named Outstanding Back at the 1973 Tangerine Bowl... an exercise science major.
