Track & Field
Last Week: The RedHawks competed at the MAC Outdoor Championships in Buffalo, capturing a combined four individual MAC titles in the process. Thursday saw Maria Scavuzzo shatter both her own school-record and the MAC Championship record in the 10,000m to win her first individual conference title, highlighting the women's efforts on the day (Recap). On Friday, the RedHawk men put 21 points on the board, 14 of which came from Christopher Torpy and Jake Brumfield in the steeplechase (Recap). The RedHawks wrapped up the weekend on Saturday with Torpy (1500m) and his twin brother Sean Torpy (800m) winning individual crowns while the women's 4x400m closed out the meet with title of its own as the men finished fifth and the women ended up tied for seventh in the team standings (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks are idle until the qualifying individuals for the NCAA East Region Preliminary, which will be announced this week, compete May 24-26 in Tampa, Florida.
Baseball
Last Week: Miami (31-17, 15-9 MAC) went 3-1 this past week, starting with a 5-3 win over Ball State in a non-conference midweek matchup on Tuesday (Recap). The RedHawks hosted Central Michigan for the weekend. MU fell in game one, 6-2. The 'Hawks built an early 2-0 lead but a pair of late three-run frames helped the Chippewas to a victory (Recap). Miami rebounded to earn a 4-2 win on Saturday in game two. Parker Massman led the offensive charge by going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in (Recap). The Red & White came through again on Sunday, topping CMU 13-8 behind six extra-base hits, including two Ross Haffey homers (Recap). This Week: Miami has just one regular season series left on the slate as they host Kent State this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Golf
Last Week: Miami was idle. This Week: Senior Patrick Flavin competes as an individual at the NCAA Columbus Regional beginning on Monday. He will play one round each day at the three round event.
Softball
Last Week: The RedHawks (24-25, 11-12 MAC) traveled to Akron for the 2018 Mid-American Conference Tournament. Miami was edged by No. 1 Ohio in its first game of the tournament by a 1-0 margin despite freshman pitcher Courtney Vierstra holding Ohio's offense to just three hits (Recap). In the RedHawks' second game of the tournament, they fell to No. 5 Western Michigan by a score of 4-1 (Recap).
