HOW IT HAPPENED:

Still with no outs, Jamie Rasmussen walked to force in a run and Diego Cruz singled to left field to make it 4-0. Dominic Krupinski stepped up and homered on an empty count, scoring four runs to stretch Miami out to a whopping 8-0 lead before the first out of the game.
- Akron led off with a walk in the bottom of the first, and the runner advanced to second on a passed ball. A single scored one run, but Zac Sohosky recorded three outs to end the inning with an 8-1 lead.
- The RedHawks had two walks in the top of the second but couldn't bring anyone around to score. Sohosky retired three straight batters in the bottom of the frame. Miami left one on base in the third before Sohosky threw two strikeouts and a fielder's choice to hold the seven-run lead.
- After a scoreless top of the fourth, the Zips began chipping away, adding one run with a home run to right field to make it 8-2. They continued to score in the fifth, scoring one run with two singles and hitting their second home run of the day to make it an 8-5 game.
- Evan Appelwick hit a one-out double in the top of the sixth and advanced to third on a wild pitch, but the RedHawks were unable to send him home. Jake Tedesco held the Zips to one baserunner in the bottom of the inning to hold the three-run lead.
- Christopher Roa and Matthew Buffington led off the seventh with back-to-back walks, and Roa advanced to third on a wild pitch. A throwing error scored Roa to extend the lead, and Dierks singled to left to put Miami ahead 10-5. Akron then loaded the bases and scored on a sac fly to make it 10-6.
- Gonzalez led off the eighth for Miami with a single and Ryan Novak followed with a walk. Roa hit an infield single to load the bases with no outs, setting up Cruz for an RBI single to extend the lead. Krupinski then walked to add another run to the tally.
- After a double sent two RedHawks down, Dierks singled, scoring Cruz and making it a 13-6 advantage for Miami. Appelwick walked, reloading the bases, and Tommy Harrison smashed the RedHawks' second grand slam of the day over the left-field wall to pull ahead by 11 runs, 17-6.
