HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami put up a five-spot in the first after accumulating four hits through the first four batters. After a leadoff double by Marcus Dierks, Novak singled down the right-field line to drive in Miami's first run. Evan Appelwick sent Novak home with a double to center. Tommy Harrison followed with the RedHawks' third double of the inning to add another RBI to his season tally. Ignacio Gonzalez capped off the rally with a two-run blast to left field, his fourth of the year.
- The Golden Flashes scored one run with a solo shot in the bottom of the first, making it 5-1 at the end of the first inning.
- Dierks took an HBP in the second. Novak crushed a two-run homer to right field, his third long ball of the year, to make it a 7-1 game.
- Kent State scored their second run in the bottom of the second, loading the bases and scoring on a sac fly.
- Dominic Krupinski hit into a fielder's choice that stretched the lead to 8-2 in the top of the third. The play scored Gonzalez, who had walked and advanced twice on a wild pitch and a groundout.
- Three more scored for Miami in the fourth inning. Novak and Appelwick started the inning with back-to-back singles and Harrison walked, loading the bases. Carson Raether walked in a run and Gonzalez came up with another RBI on a sac fly to right field. Krupinski doubled to left to score the RedHawks' 11th run.
- The RedHawks made it to 13 runs in the sixth after RBIs from Diego Cruz and Dierks. Raether, Gonzalez and Krupinski loaded the bases with a walk, single and another walk, respectively. Cruz took an HBP and Dierks hit into a fielder's choice, making it 13-2.
- A double and a single scored one run to pull Kent State within 10 in the bottom of the sixth, 13-3. Burke closed out his six-inning outing on the mound having allowed just six hits and two walks.
- The RedHawks loaded the bases again in the seventh on two errors and an HBP. Raether and Krupinski each walked to force in a run, making it 15-3. Cruz then singled on an empty count, driving in one more, and Dierks took an HBP to force in another. This set up Novak for a two-RBI double to center, his fifth RBI of the day. Run number 20 for the RedHawks scored as pinch hitter Drew Phillips grounded out, and Harrison doubled to drive in Miami's 21st and final run of the day.
- Troy Benko came in in the bottom of the seventh and saw three up, three down, activating the run rule. This rounded out an 18-run victory for Miami and handed Kent State their second conference loss of the season.
