RedHawks Split Saturday Doubleheader Against Akron

AKRON, Ohio – On Saturday, March 21, the Miami University softball team took on a doubleheader against the Akron Zips. The RedHawks took an 11-3 loss in the first game but brought it back to win 8-7 in the second.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1)
- Kicking off scoring in the second inning, Madie Patton doubled and allowed Katy Olive to score from second base.
- Quickly tying up the game 1-1, the Zips scored in the bottom of the second off a single hit.
- Pulling away from Miami, 4-1, in the third inning, the Zips scored three times, two runs batted in off a triple and one off a single.
- Pushing their lead to 8-1, the Zips scored four unearned runs in the fourth inning. Scoring once on an error, once on a groundout and batted in two runs off a single hit that was out at second.
- Trying to make a comeback in the fifth inning, Danitza Hernandez hit a home run and allowed Mia Estrello to score, bringing the score to 8-3.
- Ending the game in the fifth inning, the Zips scored twice more. Once off a single hit and once off a double, bringing the final score to 10-3.
NOTES:
- Estrello went 2-for-3 at the plate and brought in one run.
- Hernandez was credited with two RBI and hit one home run.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2)
- Getting on the board, 3-0, early in the second inning, Evey Dieudonne homered. With Mckenna Campbell on first base, Erin Pinter then hit another home run and allowed Campbell to score as well.
- Taking the lead, 6-0, in the fourth inning, for the second time, Pinter hit a home run, allowing Campbell to score from first. Hernandez then doubled and allowed Estrello to score.
- Making it a 7-7 game in the bottom of the fourth, the Zips had a two-run home run, scored off of a walk, again off of a wild pitch and finished out the fourth inning with a three-run home run.
- Taking back the lead in the sixth inning, Dieudonne hit a double and allowed Olive to score, making the final score 8-7.
NOTES:
- Pinter went 3-for-4 at the plate, hit two home runs and was credited with four RBI.
- Angelina Ricciardi pitched 3.2 innings with 15 at-bats and allowed only three hits and no earned runs.
- Hernandez went 3-for-4 at the plate and was credited with one RBI.
- Mckenna Campbell went 2-for-3 at the plate and had two runs.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks return to action Tuesday, March 24, in Huntington, WV, to face off against Marshall University at 4 p.m.
