HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Miami University softball team faced off against Marshall University but ultimately fell to the Herd, 5–4.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks travel back home to Oxford, Ohio, to take on the Kent State Golden Flashes on Friday, March 27 at 3 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Getting on the board in the first inning, Danitza Hernandez singled and allowed Katy Olive to score an unearned run for a 1-0 lead.
- Bringing the score to 2-1 at the end of the first, the Herd quickly responded, scoring off a groundout and a single.
- Continuing to pull ahead, 5-1, in the third, Marshall scored with one home run and a two-run home run.
- Making it a three-run game in the sixth inning, Leila Mathis singled and allowed Madie Patton to score.
- In the top of the seventh, the RedHawks scored twice. Hernandez came around to the plate on a single hit by Erin Pinter and Evey Dieudonne scored off a Mckenna Campbell single, but Marshall held on by a final score of 5-4.
NOTES:
- In total, the RedHawks only struck out twice.
- Danitza Hernandez went 1-for-2 at the plate, brought in one run and was credited with one RBI.
- Leila Mathis went 2-for-3 at the plate and was credited with one RBI.
- Angelina Ricciardi struck out four at the plate and only walked one.
