RedHawks Sweep Doubleheader From Western Michigan

OXFORD, Ohio– On Saturday afternoon, the Miami University softball team swept its doubleheader against the Western Michigan Broncos, with one game ending early in the fifth inning. Miami won by scores of 6-5 and 9-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- Kicking off scoring at the bottom of the second, Leila Mathis scored, unearned, off a single that was hit by Erin Pinter to make it 1-0.
- Extending Miami's lead in the bottom of the third, Mia Estrello scored her second run of the game off a double hit by Evey Dieudonne.
- The RedHawks continued to widen the gap to 4-0, with Danitza Hernandez hitting a double in the bottom of the second, bringing Estrello and Bailey Manos home to score.
- Getting on the board at the top of the fifth, the Broncos scored once off a foul-out, making the score 4-1.
- Kari Krueger hit a single, allowing pinch runner Jeneva Mitchell and Pinter to score for a 6-1 cushion.
- Responding at the top of the seventh, the Broncos racked up four runs on a series of hits before Miami held on to preserve a 6-5 victory.
NOTES:
- Mia Estrello went 2-for-3 at the plate and totaled two runs.
- Mckenna Campbell totaled 10 putouts.
- Angelina Ricciardi pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and four earned runs while striking out eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- Kicking off the game at the bottom of the second, Bailey Manos hits a grand slam, allowing Kari Krueger, Erin Pinter and Mckenna Campbell to score and bringing the score to 4-0.
- In the top of the fourth, the Broncos responded by hitting a home run, 4-1.
- In the bottom of the same inning, Leila Mathis scored off a single hit by Pinter. Pinter then was able to score off a single hit by Mia Estrello, making the score 6-1 at the end of the fourth.
- Continuing Miami's lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Katy Olive scored off a single hit by Mathis. Mathis was then able to score off a double hit by Campbell.
- The game was called in the fifth inning, with Jeneva Mitchell, as a pinch hitter, running home off a double hit by Pinter, making the score 9-1 and giving the RedHawks an eight-run lead to win the game.
NOTES:
- Bailey Manos started the game with a grand slam, making that her ninth home run of the season.
- Mia Estrello went 2-for-3 at the plate and was credited with one RBI.
- Leila Mathis went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and hit one double.
- Léa Chevrier pitched a complete game, only allowing four hits and one run, while striking out three.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks head on the road again on Tuesday, March 17, against Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Ky., at 4 p.m. The RedHawks are 1-0 against the Norse this season.
