OXFORD, Ohio – On Friday afternoon, the Miami University softball team took on Western Michigan to kick off the RedHawks' home opener and MACtion, losing 8-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Katy Olive put the RedHawks on the board with the first home run at home this season, bringing Danitza Hernandez in from first with her in the bottom of the third, 2-0.
Taking the lead in the top of the fourth, the Broncos scored once off a flyout and then hit a grand slam, making the score 5-2.
Manos tightened the gap in the bottom of the fourth, hitting the RedHawks' second home run of the game and bringing Leila Mathis home from first, 5-4.
The Broncos responded in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs off a triple and one off a single, making the score 8-4.
Mathis then scored off a Mia Estrello single in the bottom of the sixth, making the score 8-5.
In the bottom of the seventh, Olive hit her second homer of the game, making the final score 8-6.

NOTES:

Bailey Manos went 2-for-3 at the plate and had her eighth home run of the season.
Mia Estrello went 3-for-4 at the plate and was credited with one RBI.
Katy Olive went 2-for-3 at the plate and hit two home runs, giving her eight this season.
Leila Mathis went 2-for-3 at the plate and had two runs.
Léa Chevrier pitched a complete game, allowing only eight hits while striking out three.
