RedHawks Blow Past Falcons in 8-5 Victory

OXFORD, Ohio – The RedHawks defeated Bowling Green Friday 8-5 in a windy night game after a scoreless seven-inning start on the mound from Zac Sohosky. Evan Appelwick hit two home runs during the contest, bringing him to nine on the season. Miami moves to 12-4 (4-0 MAC) with the win while Bowling Green drops to 4-11 (1-3 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The RedHawks notched three quick outs, including a double play, with just nine pitches from Sohosky to start the game.
- Appelwick smacked a home run to right-center, his eighth of the season, to bring in two runs for Miami in the bottom of the first.
- Sohosky sent three straight batters down with two strikeouts and a flyout in the second. He also held the Falcons scoreless in the third and fourth innings, striking out the final two batters to get out of a jam with two runners in scoring position.
- Sohosky struck out two more batters in the fifth in a three up, three down inning.
- Two walks and a bunt single by Diego Cruz loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth. Marcus Dierks took an RBI HBP to make it 3-0. Ryan Novak pushed a sac fly to the left-center wall to bring in one more.
- Still with one out, Appelwick crushed a 442-footer to left-center to bring in three runs for the RedHawks. This made it 7-0.
- Sohosky completed his sixth full inning on the mound and his ninth strikeout to ward off the Falcons yet again. In the seventh he earned his 10th strikeout while sending down three straight batters.
- Novak led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, and a walk and an HBP loaded the bases. Dominic Krupinski took an HBP to extend the lead to 8-0.
- Bowling Green hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning after a single and a walk to pull within five runs.
- In the ninth, Bowling Green scored one run on a triple and one on a wild pitch, but Carson Byers managed to record the final three outs for the RedHawks to lock down an 8-5 victory.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Novak went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
- Appelwick went 2-for-4 with two runs and fve RBI.
- Cruz went 2-for-4 with one run.
- Sohosky struck out 10 of the 25 batters he faced in seven full innings of work. He held opponents to just two hits and one walk during the win.
