RedHawks Pickup Win Over Minnesota; Drop Contest to Kentucky

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1 vs. Kentucky):
- The Wildcats started off strong with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and then four more runs in the bottom of the second inning, making the score 7-0.
- The RedHawks responded in the top of the third with Mia Estrello doubling and allowing Bailey Manos to score from first base.
- The RedHawks continued their climb in the fifth inning, with Danitza Hernandez allowing Erin Pinter and Jeneva Mitchell to score, bringing the score to 7-3.
- In the top of the sixth, the RedHawks scored twice more with Katy Olive scoring when Mia Fleming was hit with a pitch. Manos also scored off of a fielder's choice play that got Pinter to first.
- In the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats scored off an error.
- Hernandez hit a home run in the top of the seventh, allowing Mckenna Campbell to score to make it a one-run game.
- The Wildcats held on to win, 8-7.
NOTES:
- Hernandez was credited with four RBI and hit the only home run by the RedHawks. She was 2-for-4 at the plate.
- Manos was 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs.
- The RedHawks out-hit the Wildcats 12-8.
- Nine RedHawks had hits, and three were credited with an RBI.
- Six RedHawks scored runs.
- The Red and White left nine players on base.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2 vs. Minnesota):
- The Gophers started out strong in the bottom of the first, scoring off of a fielding error, making the score 1-0.
- The RedHawks quickly responded in the top of the second, with Ella Carter and Pinter scoring off of a double by Olive, making the score 2-1.
- The Gophers tied it up in the bottom of the fourth with a home run.
- In the top of the sixth, Carter hit a home run and that brought Lindsay Miller in to score from first.
- Still in the top of the sixth, Leila Mathis singled to allow Pinter to score from second, making the score 5-2 going into the bottom of the inning.
- The Gophers responded in the bottom of the sixth, but ultimately the RedHawks held strong making the final score 5-3.
NOTES:
- Ella Carter went 2-for-2 at the plate, had the only RedHawks home run and was credited for two of the five RBI.
- Katy Olive was credited with two RBIs and went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double.
- Leila Mathis went 1-for-1 with one RBI as a pinch hitter.
- Angelina Ricciardi threw a complete game and only allowed four hits.
- Three different players scored for the RedHawks.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks take on a doubleheader Saturday against Minnesota and San Diego State in San Diego.
