No. 9 UMD Powers Past No. 20 RedHawks

OXFORD, Ohio– No. 9 Minnesota Duluth capitalized on special teams with three second-period goals and defeated No. 20/RV Miami 4-1 Saturday night at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena. Kocha Delic had the only goal for the RedHawks (17-13-2, 8-12-2 NCHC). Aaron Pionk and Hunter Anderson each finished with one goal and one assist for the Bulldogs (20-12-0, 11-11-0 NCHC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 4:29 2nd (UMD 1-0) | After a scoreless first period, Minnesota Duluth took a 1-0 lead early in the second stanza as a RedHawk penalty expired. Ty Hanson made a move toward the net and fired a shot that fell to Pionk for a rebound in close. Jayson Shaugabay had the second assist on the play.
- 6:56 2nd (UMD 2-0) | The visitors doubled their lead on a power-play goal just over two minutes later. Kyle Gaffney set up Pionk for a one-timer from the top of the right circle and Anderson was in the right place to knock home the rebound.
- 13:21 2nd (UMD 3-0) | The Bulldogs added to their lead later in the third period, taking advantage of a 5-on-3 power play. Scout Truman finished off a give-and-go with Grayden Siepmann to make it 3-0, with Anderson picking up the other assist.
- 0:52 3rd (Miami 3-1) | Miami broke through in the first minute of the third period to make it 3-1. David Deputy tracked down the puck in the neutral zone and played a pass forward that tipped off Ilia Morozov to Delic. Delic skated in from the blue line and ripped a shot to trim UMD's lead.
- 18:51 3rd (UMD 4-1) | Minnesota Duluth closed the scoring on an unassisted empty-netter by Max Plante with 1:09 to play.
NOTES
- Delic extended his point streak to three games and collected his team-leading 23rd point of the season; he was named the game's Third Star.
- The RedHawks out-shot the Bulldogs 25-21.
- Matteo Drobac made 17 saves in net for the Red and White.
- The crowd of 3,372 was Miami's fourth home sellout of the season.
- Miami recognized Blake Mesenburg, Maximilion Helgeson, Kyle Aucoin, Nick Donato, Owen Lalonde and Brayden Morrison (pictured, from left to right) during the Senior Night pregame ceremony.
