RedHawks Travel to Toledo For Friday Evening Contest on CBSSN

FRIDAY: Miami hits the road for a conference contest at Toledo on Friday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. The Red and White enter this game with a 16-0 record, its best start to a season in program history. Miami ranks among the top of the nation in numerous statistical categories heading into this game, which includes being first in the country in effective field goal percentage (0.629), first in field goal percentage (53.4), third in three-point percentage (41.6), ninth in free throw percentage (78.4), 10th in threes per game (11.4), 10th in scoring offense (93.3), 10th in scoring margin (21.0), 28th in defensive rebounds per game (28.38), 33rd in bench points per game (33.25), 50th in assists per game (17.3), 56th in three point percentage defense (30.2) and 60th in assist/turnover ratio (1.51).
ABOUT TOLEDO: Toledo is currently 9-6 (3-0 MAC), as the Rockets are currently on a four-game win streak with wins over Lourdes (100-67), Western Michigan (84-79), Central Michigan (78-75) and Northern Illinois (75-61). Toledo went 18-15 (10-8 MAC) last year. Head coach Tod Kowalczyk is in his 16th season with the Rockets. Heading into the 2025-26 season, Toledo was selected to finish sixth overall in the 2025-26 MAC Preseason Men's Basketball Poll. Junior guard Sonny Wilson was selected as a Preseason Second Team All-MAC player.
Wilson (16.9/game) and freshman guard Leroy Blyden Jr. (15.1/game) lead the Rockets offense in points. Blyden Jr. also leads the team in assists (4.4/game) and steals (1.8/game), while Wilson follows closely behind in both assists (4.3/game) and steals (1.5/game). Senior forward Sean Craig averages the most rebounds (7.8/game) and junior center Austin Parks has totaled the most blocks (1.0/game).Â
THE SERIES WITH THE ROCKETS: This Friday's away contest against the Rockets will be the 141st meeting between the two programs. Miami trails in the series 69-71 all-time, as the Red and White are 22-44 when playing in Toledo against the Rockets. Miami is currently on a one-game winning streak against the Rockets, as the RedHawks took down Toledo 92-80 in Oxford on Feb. 11, 2025. A win on Friday would mark Miami's first victory at Savage Arena since Feb. 12, 2011.

The Red and White reached its highest ranking of the 2025-26 season on the Mid-Major Top 25® Poll, as Collegeinsider announced its new poll Monday evening, with the RedHawks ranked No. 2 overall. The RedHawks are just one of six teams that are still undefeated at the Division I level (Arizona, Iowa State, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska and Vanderbilt).
SILVER WAVES MEDIA MOST IMPACTFUL MID MAJOR ASSISTANT LIST: Silver Waves Media announced its 7th annual Mid Major Assistant Coaches and GM's lists on Monday afternoon, with Miami associate head coach Jonathan Holmes being named to the list. Holmes is currently in his fourth season with the RedHawks and his third year as an associate head coach.
RECENT ACTION: The Miami University men's basketball team fended off Western Michigan for an 87-76 win at Millett Hall on Tuesday night. Almar Atlason led all players with 21 points, while Antwone Woolfolk (13), Luke Skaljac (12), Peter Suder (12) and Justin Kirby (10) added double figures. Miami outrebounded Western Michigan 41 to 34. The RedHawks also recorded 37 bench points. Justin Kirby played the most minutes of his young career (20:44), playing in only his third game and leading the RedHawks with eight rebounds. With Miami's most recent win at home over Western Michigan, the Red and White extended its home win streak to 24 games. With this victory, the RedHawks surpassed the record of 23 straight home wins that was originally set in 1996-1998.
