RedHawks Head to Kent State for Tuesday Night Contest

TUESDAY: Miami heads to Kent State on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. The Red and White enter this game with a 19-0 (7-0 MAC) record, its best start to a season in program history. With a win, the RedHawks will secure the best start for a program in MAC history (currently sharing the best start at 19-0, originally set by WMU in 1975-76). The RedHawks are one road win away from tying the program record for most consecutive road wins in a season and one road win away from securing a new program record for most consecutive road wins overall.
ABOUT KENT STATE: Kent State is currently 14-4 (5-1 MAC), as the Golden Flashes most recently defeated Buffalo (87-81) last Tuesday night and Toledo (87-84) this past Friday evening. Kent State went 24-12 (11-7 MAC) last year. Head coach Rob Senderoff is in his 15th season with the Golden Flashes. Heading into the 2025-26 season, Kent State was selected to finish third overall in the 2025-26 MAC Preseason Men's Basketball Poll. Senior forward Delrecco Gillespie was named to the Preseason All-MAC First Team.
Gillespie leads the Golden Flashes in points (19.8/game), rebounds (12.6/game) and blocks (1.7/game). Junior guard Cian Medley has produced the most assists (7.0/game) and steals (1.4/game) for Kent State. Graduate student guard Morgan Safford, who is a former RedHawk, stands at second on the team in points (14.1/game).
THE SERIES WITH THE GOLDEN FLASHES: This Tuesday's away contest against the Golden Flashes will be the 157th meeting between the two programs. Miami leads in the series 96-60 all-time. Miami is currently on a four-game winning streak against the Golden Flashes, as the RedHawks' last victory over Kent State (72-64) came during the MAC Tournament Semifinals on March 14, 2025.

The RedHawks are now the first team from the MAC selected in the poll since the 2018-19 Buffalo Bulls. The Red and White also retained its highest ranking of the 2025-26 season on the Mid-Major Top 25® Poll, as Collegeinsider announced its new poll Monday evening, with the RedHawks ranked No. 2 overall. The RedHawks are just one of three teams that are still undefeated at the Division I level (Arizona, Miami and Nebraska). Miami ranks among the top of the nation in numerous statistical categories heading into its next game, which includes being first in the country in effective field goal percentage (0.636), first in field goal percentage (54.0), first in three-point percentage (41.9), second in scoring offense (93.9), sixth in scoring margin (20.6), seventh in threes per game (11.5), 10th in free throw percentage (78.2), 24th in defensive rebounds per game (28.21), 37th in bench points per game (31.32), 38th in assists per game (17.4) and 41st in assist/turnover ratio (1.55).Â
