RedHawks Set to Clash With Buffalo Saturday Afternoon

SATURDAY: Miami takes on Buffalo at Millett Hall on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. The Red and White enter this game with an 18-0 (6-0 MAC) record, its best start to a season in program history. With a win, the RedHawks match the best start for a program in MAC history (19-0, set by WMU in 1975-76). Miami ranks among the top of the nation in numerous statistical categories heading into this game, which includes being first in the country in effective field goal percentage (0.634), first in field goal percentage (53.8), first in three-point percentage (41.8), fourth in free throw percentage (78.6), fifth in scoring offense (93.3), seventh in scoring margin (21.6), seventh in threes per game (11.4), 21st in defensive rebounds per game (28.33), 28th in bench points per game (32.67), 41st in assist/turnover ratio (1.54) and 44th in assists per game (17.3).Â
ABOUT BUFFALO: Buffalo is currently 13-4 (3-2 MAC), as the Bulls most recently dropped to Ohio (80-91) last Saturday afternoon and Kent State (81-87) this past Tuesday night. Buffalo went 9-22 (4-14 MAC) last year. Head coach George Halcovage III is in his third season with the Bulls. Heading into the 2025-26 season, Buffalo was selected to finish 11th overall in the 2025-26 MAC Preseason Men's Basketball Poll.Â
Sophomore guard Daniel Freitag (20.3/game), junior guard Ryan Sabol (17.0/game) and graduate student Angelo Brizzi (11.2/game) lead the Bulls offense in points. Miami leads in the series 31-27 all-time, as the Red and White are 16-10 when playing in Oxford against the Bulls. Miami is currently on a three-game winning streak against the Bulls, as the RedHawks' last victory over Buffalo was an 84-69 win in Alumni Arena on March 4, 2025.

RECENT ACTION: The Miami University men's basketball team (18-0, 6-0 MAC) rolled past Central Michigan for a 100-61 win at Millett Hall on Tuesday night. Brant Byers scored the most points of the game with 24 total, while Justin Kirby (17), Luke Skaljac (13), Peter Suder (11) and Antwone Woolfolk (10) added double figures. With this win, Miami improved to a program-best 25 straight wins at home and are now 6-0 to start conference play for the second season in a row. The Red and White shot 50% (32-of-53) or better from the field for the 14th time this season and had under 10 turnovers for the fifth time this season. This marked the first time that Miami scored 100 or more points against a conference opponent since Jan. 5, 2002 (100-94 double overtime victory at Central Michigan). This is also the fifth time the RedHawks have scored 100 or more points this season.Â
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE: With Miami's most recent win at home over Central Michigan (100-61), the Red and White extended its home win streak to 25 games. With this victory, the RedHawks extended the record for consecutive home wins. Last season, Miami set a new record of 15 consecutive home wins over the course of one season.
RANKINGS: Miami received 49 votes in the most recent Associated Press Top 25 men's college basketball poll on Monday, Jan. 12. The Red and White retained its highest ranking of the 2025-26 season on the Mid-Major Top 25® Poll, as Collegeinsider announced its new poll Monday, Jan. 12, with the RedHawks ranked No. 2 overall. The RedHawks are just one of three teams that are still undefeated at the Division I level (Arizona, Miami and Nebraska).
