RedHawks Hit the Road for a Pair of Matches

THIS WEEK: The Red and White begin a road trip where they will face off with Akron on Thursday, Sept 25 at 6 p.m. The RedHawks follow this up by heading to Buffalo the next day for an evening match on Friday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. 

ABOUT AKRON: Akron went 11-19 and held a 7-11 record in the MAC in 2024. The Zips are currently 7-4 after most recently going 2-0 last week against Youngstown State and Cleveland State. Akron was chosen to finish 10th in the 2025 MAC Volleyball Coaches Poll. The Red and White are 49-22 when taking on the Zips. The last time Miami and Akron competed was on Oct. 12, 2024, as the Zips secured a 3-1 victory (25-23, 30-32, 18-25, 22-25). 

ABOUT BUFFALO: Buffalo went 16-16 and held a 12-6 record in the MAC in 2024. The Bulls are currently 3-6 after most recently going 0-2 at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational. Buffalo was chosen to finish fifth in the 2025 MAC Volleyball Coaches Poll. The Bulls return redshirt sophomore outside hitter Manoela Forlin, who was named to the 2025 Preseason All-MAC Team. The Red and White are 34-17 when taking on the Bulls. The last time Miami and Buffalo competed was on Oct. 11, 2024, as the Bulls secured a 3-2 victory (23-25, 14-25, 25-23, 25-18, 7-15). 

TELEVISION: Both matches that the RedHawks compete in this week can be watched on ESPN+.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks continue conference play by hosting Western Michigan on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m. Miami follows this up with another home contest versus Northern Illinois on Friday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m.

WARRICK WATCH: Gentry Warrick is currently tied for sixth all-time in Miami history with 0.99 career blocks per set. She holds a total of 72 career solo blocks (sixth all-time in Miami history). Warrick also ranks sixth in the nation in total blocks (67) and 13th in blocks per set (1.52). Her 1.52 blocks per set leads the MAC currently. The Red and White stand at 16th in the country in team total blocks (119) as well.

RECENT ACTION: The RedHawks most recently went 1-1 in a weekend series versus the Northern Kentucky Norse. Lindy Radaszewski led the RedHawks' attack in each of those matches versus the Norse, as she recorded 3.75 kills per set while maintaining a .540 hitting percentage. She also led the Red and White in points, as she totaled 32.5 (4.06 per set) across the two matches. The freshman middle hitter saw action as an opposite hitter and had 30 kills, two service aces, one assist and one block assist over the weekend. Radaszewski led all players with a career-high 19 kills (.531 hit percentage) in Saturday's five-set win over the Norse.

BEST WESTERN INVITATIONAL: Earlier this season, Miami claimed the championship at home in the Best Western Invitational, as the RedHawks took down Middle Tennessee and Duquesne. Lauren Coyne was named the Best Western Invitational tournament MVP, and Molly Creech was named to the All-Tournament Team. Coyne received MVP honors after recording 3.62 points per set and 3.00 kills per set. The freshman opposite hitter totaled 39 kills and added a service ace over 13 sets. In Miami's two wins against the Blue Raiders and Dukes, Coyne posted 38 points (4.22 points/set) and 32 kills (3.56 kills/set) with a .293 hitting percentage.

MAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Miami University volleyball senior middle blocker Gentry Warrick was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15. Warrick set the tone for the Red and White defensively at the Miami/Best Western Invitational, as she recorded 17 blocks (1.42/set) to help lead the RedHawks to a tournament championship. In Miami's two wins against Middle Tennessee and Duquesne, she posted 15 blocks (1.67/set), three of which were solo blocks. 

FRESHMEN IMPACT: Freshmen Molly Creech, Lauren Coyne, Grace Kreutz and Lindy Radaszewski have seen significant action at the start of the 2025 season. Creech has recorded 2.57 kills per set (second on the team), 0.14 service aces per set (fourth on the team) and 3.22 digs per set (second on the team). Coyne has put down 2.09 kills per set (third on the team) and 0.70 blocks per set (third on the team). Radaszewski has made a strong impact at the service line, as she is second on the team with 0.22 service aces per set. Kreutz made her debut as a RedHawk against Ohio State, and she is now averaging 1.00 kills per set (seventh on the team) and 1.27 digs per set (sixth on the team).

EUROPEAN TRIP: This summer the RedHawks had the opportunity to go on a European tour (from late May into early June), visiting Milan, Bologna and Venice in Italy before traveling to Athens and Nafplio in Greece. The Miami group (including players, coaches and staff) enjoyed plenty of opportunities for sightseeing and sampling the local cuisine, while the Red and White also got to play four competitive matches against local professional teams.
