RedHawks Prepare for Weekend Clash Versus NKU

THIS WEEKEND: The Red and White begin this weekend's action at home by hosting Northern Kentucky on Friday, Sept 19 at 6:30 p.m. The RedHawks follow this up by heading down to Northern Kentucky the next day for an afternoon match on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. 

ABOUT NORTHERN KENTUCKY: Northern Kentucky went 11-18 and held a 7-11 record in the Horizon League in 2024. The Norse are currently 3-6 after most recently going 1-2 at the Geri Polvino Invitational (hosted by Eastern Kentucky). Northern Kentucky was chosen to finish sixth in the 2025 Horizon League Preseason Volleyball Poll. The Norse return sophomore outside hitter Allison Risley, who was named to the 2024 Horizon League All-Freshman Team. 

The Red and White are 8-8 when taking on the Norse. The last time Miami and Northern Kentucky competed was on Sept. 21, 2024, as the Norse secured a 3-0 victory (21-25, 21-25, 14-25) at the Northern Kentucky Invitational. 

TELEVISION: This Friday's match against Northern Kentucky will be available to watch on ESPN+.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks begin conference play against Akron on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. Miami follows this up by traveling to Buffalo on Friday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m.

WARRICK WATCH: Gentry Warrick is currently tied for sixth all-time in Miami history with 0.99 career blocks per set. She holds a total of 70 career solo blocks (sixth all-time in Miami history). Warrick also ranks third in the nation in total blocks (58) and seventh in blocks per set (1.61). The Red and White stand at seventh in the country in team total blocks (105) as well.

BEST WESTERN INVITATIONAL: Miami claimed the championship at home in the Best Western Invitational, as the RedHawks took down Middle Tennessee and Duquesne last week. Lauren Coyne was named the Best Western Invitational tournament MVP, and Molly Creech was named to the All-Tournament Team. Coyne received MVP honors after recording 3.62 points per set and 3.00 kills per set. The freshman opposite hitter totaled 39 kills and added a service ace over 13 sets. In Miami's two wins against the Blue Raiders and Dukes, Coyne posted 38 points (4.22 points/set) and 32 kills (3.56 kills/set) with a .293 hitting percentage.

MAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Miami University volleyball senior middle blocker Gentry Warrick was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week following her performances at the Best Western Invitational last week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
 
Warrick set the tone for the Red and White defensively at the Miami/Best Western Invitational, as she recorded 17 blocks (1.42/set) to help lead the RedHawks to a tournament championship. Aside from her blocking efforts, she also contributed 16 kills (1.33/set) and five digs (0.42/set). In Miami's two wins against Middle Tennessee and Duquesne, she posted 15 blocks (1.67/set), three of which were solo blocks. Warrick continues to lead the MAC in total blocks (58) and blocks per set (1.61) after this weekend's play.

FRESHMEN IMPACT: Freshmen Molly Creech, Lauren Coyne, Grace Kreutz and Lindy Radaszewski have seen significant action at the start of the 2025 season. As a starter, Creech has recorded 2.54 kills per set (second on the team), 0.15 service aces per set (tied for third on the team) and 3.34 digs per set (first on the team). Coyne has put down 2.26 kills per set (third on the team) and 0.74 blocks per set (third on the team). Radaszewski has made a strong impact at the service line, as she is second on the team with 0.22 service aces per set. Kreutz made her debut as a RedHawk against Ohio State, and she is now averaging 1.00 kills per set (seventh on the team) and 1.27 digs per set (sixth on the team).

STRONG RETURNS: Of its 15-player roster, the Red and White return nine players from the 2024 season. Seniors Ellie Hanson, Hayden Hicks, Emily Morgan and Gentry Warrick anchor a solid veteran group. They are joined by juniors Raegan Lantz, Anna McClure (redshirt) and Chelsea Williams. The sophomore class includes Sophie Crawford and Lydia Michelin

FRESH ON THE SCENE: Six newcomers will be joining the Miami roster as well. The RedHawks welcome four freshmen this season which includes Lauren Coyne, Molly Creech, Grace Kreutz and Lindy Radaszewski. Miami also brings on senior Lindsay Kahren (transfer from William and Mary) and sophomore Kamryn Utley (transfer from Lehigh).

EUROPEAN TRIP: This summer the RedHawks had the opportunity to go on a European tour (from late May into early June), visiting Milan, Bologna and Venice in Italy before traveling to Athens and Nafplio in Greece. The Miami group (including players, coaches and staff) enjoyed plenty of opportunities for sightseeing and sampling the local cuisine, while the Red and White also got to play four competitive matches against local professional teams.
