HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.— The Miami University volleyball team (6-6) secured a five-set victory (26-24, 17-25, 25-15, 23-25, 15-12) over Northern Kentucky (4-7) on Saturday evening at Regents Hall. Highlighting the win, two RedHawks finished with double-digit kills, as
Lindy Radaszewski led all players with a career-high 19 (.531 hit percentage) and
Molly Creech added 10. On defense,
Anna McClure recorded 20 digs and
Gentry Warrick totaled six blocks to propel Miami to the hard-fought win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A Hayden Hicks service ace, a Radaszewski kill and numerous attack errors by the Norse gave Miami a 7-2 lead at the start of the first set. Northern Kentucky went on to even the score at nine. After some back-and-forth action, the RedHawks were losing 17-16 when Miami went on a 5-0 run that was fueled by Gentry Warrick and Chelsea Williams. Miami took the first set 26-24 thanks to back-to-back kills from Creech and Radaszewski.
- Northern Kentucky led 9-5 at the beginning of the second set. A flurry of kills, including four from Radaszewski, put Miami on top of the Norse at 14-13. Northern Kentucky responded by closing out the second set 25-17.
- A pair of solo blocks from Warrick in the third set gave Miami the edge over the Norse at 5-4. The RedHawks held on to the lead at 13-9 after another Radaszewski kill and a Creech service ace. The Red and White ended the set by outscoring Northern Kentucky 12-6 to secure a 25-15 third-set win.
- Early kills from Hicks and Ellie Hanson, including a service ace from Radaszewski, helped Miami pull away from the Norse at 6-2 in the fourth set. Northern Kentucky eventually tied the score at 11-11, and the close play continued as neither team was able to find a way to separate, with the score remaining tied at 17 heading into the end of the set. Despite four late kills from Radaszewski and Creech, the RedHawks dropped the fourth set 25-23.
- Hicks put down a service ace to take the opening point of the fifth set. No team led by more than one point until the RedHawks capitalized on a Northern Kentucky attack error and a bad set to lead 9-7. Despite a close finish, the Norse committed two critical attack errors that ultimately handed Miami a 15-12 victory in the fifth set.
NOTES:
- Hicks had a season-best in both assists (30) and service aces (three).
